Great Place to stay

No Complaints here. The room was clean--I didn't mind taking my shoes off! Great service, our room was cleaned extremely well each day. Breakfast was ok--nothing special but adequate.

Help much to be desired

The room and motel were great but the attitude of the help had much to be desired. They were LAZY and "snotty". The breakfast bar didn't have as much on it as advertised. It was out of coffee and butter. Asked the gal at the desk for butter. She didn't even get off her chair to ask what I wanted. Told me butter was there. I replied - empty. Told me cook was in the kitchen. I asked where that was. had to look myself and no one around. Front girl went to look for her. We were done with breakfast and check out and no one was still around.

The San Remo Hotel

Even though the name says 'hotel', the San Remo is more of a pension, on the European model. It is very popular with international visitors. I found it through sheer luck while thumbing through a magazine. It is described as an 'Italianate Victorian' structure. The rooms are fairly small, but well-furnished and decorated with antiques and art. There are also beautiful interior windows and stained glass skylights. The bathroom facilities are shared (I think there are a couple of rooms with private baths) and they are simply emmaculate. I never had to wait for a shower either. I just have to say that the San Remo was the cleanest place in which I have ever stayed!! The bathrooms have white tile and it was spotless every time I was in them. They are equipped with the old time brass pull-chain toilets and claw-footed tubs. Very charming. Also, the staff was stellar. I asked a million and one questions and they answered every single one with helpful information and a cheerful smile. Finally, the San Remo is located just a couple of blocks from Pier 39. It was a delightful place to stay in a very convenient spot.
