trip to Sea World & San Diego Zoos

This hotel in its day must have been very grand! The rooms could use some upgrades. The value for the money was good as well an excellent location if planning to go to Sea World & the Zoo. The beds were rather firm. When showering, we left the faucets on full HOT, however, the temperature would fluctuate from warm to cool and back to warm. Rooms kind of noisy with hall noise and sounds from upstairs. The breakfast was okay, but kind of chaotic. In addition to the waffles, toast, and bagels, it would have been nice if there could have been some yogurt and fresh fruit. Overall though, it was a great value for the money since we primarily planned to only sleep there.

Good for a place to sleep

The Lafayette was good for a place to sleep and a good continental breakfast. Though the rooms were small and everything visably old, the room did come with a fridge & microwave which was very nice to have. The staff was not terribly friendly, but they were able to provide good service. Also, the valuable belogings that I left in the room remained untouched for the entire trip, this kind of security is greatly appreciated and sometimes tough to find.

Past its glory days

The lobby and pool area seemed very nice but the room was pretty shabby. The bathroom was dirty. Several of the walls had poorly repaired areas that hadn't been finished nicely or in some cases, not at all. Just didn't look like they cared about havinig nice rooms anymore. The continental breakfast was very basic.

Cautious at first but pleasantly surprised by the overall "good" experience. First time visit to San Diego in many, many, years and wanted a safe, comfortable trip on a budget. We found the Layfaette very charming with great history. The complimentary breakfast suited our needs perfectly . . . loved the "make your own waffles". Easy to get to all our destinations . . USD, Balboa Park, downtown, Coronado, Point Loma, etc. The one draw back was the very busy open parking lot. My daughters brand new car got scratched. . .cosmetic only, but spoiled the stay. Also, did not appreciate that smoking was allowed in the patio area.
