We booked a 3 bedroom townhouse on-line only to get there and be split into two rooms because there was no 3 bedroom unit. The kitchen was okay. The stove had a little leftover food on it and the microwave was missing the plate and smelled of old burnt popcorn. There are no kitchen utensils so we had to make a trip to Target. The sofa in the living room had holes in it and the carpets need cleaning. The bedrooms are a good size but my blanket had holes in the top comforter and had hair all over the blanket underneath and there were cobwebs in the corners of most of the rooms. The bathroom was adequate but there was no hotel shampoo, soap, etc. The fitness center has 1 old treadmill and an even older stationary bike. The printer in the business center did not work and the kids playground consits of a sandy area with one of those things that you climb up one side and then slide down. Fun for kids under the age of 2 maybe - my son is 8 and said the play area was a joke. Only two jets in the hot tub worked. They changed the locks on our doors while we were there and left sawdust all over the kitchen and living room floors. We had to call them twice before it was cleaned up. The staff was friendly enough but this hotel is in dire need of some updating and needs a thorough cleaning. The front desk staff could use a course in hospitality.

I arrived at the hotel and felt severely dismayed by the hotel based on the photos from the Travel website. It was poorly maintained and didn't come to the standard that i would hope to have based on the price per night. They "upgraded" my friends and I to a townhouse, and while the space was nice, the room was absolutely filthy. I wouldn't shower without sandals, and I didn't want to sleep in the bed or sit on the furniture. It also looked like one of the the 17 inch tvs had been ripped off the table leaving behind only wires and residue. I refused to stay in there, and when I went to tell the front desk that I thought the room was dirty, they asked what I wanted to do and I said I didn't want to stay there at all, and they gave me attitude about how the entire town of San Diego was booked and so "good luck". They put us back into a regular room, which was the size of a small box. I realize the hotel is a historical part of San Diego, but it was not kept up with pride and is obviously deteriorating. I was very unhappy with my stay and was told there was nothing I could do for the entire weekend because there is no manager on duty for the weekend and the desk staff didn't have the authority to help me. I was very unhappy with my stay, and was embarassed to have picked this hotel for my friends and I to stay in.

the lafayette was an older hotel, our room was huge with some furniture that could use some attention. there is a gorgeous pool, difficult to get to due to locked gates. service and food was excellent. we enjoyed and will return.

We booked this hotel while in town for the maraton due to the history and location, but were soon disappointed when music and parties around the pool continued into the late night hours keeping those who go to sleep before midnight with no recourse other than to put in ear plugs. The hotel hosted a annual fashion show one night we were there for a wonderful cause, but they did not notify us until less than 24 hrs beforehand that this would be taking place. There were a lot of 20-somethings running around drinking alcohol and a very a loud band which played until 10:30. Paying guests were asked to "go around the building" and were not allowed in the lobby and pool area to get to their rooms. My sister and I had someone barge into our room while were in bed in our pajamas. Talk about security. Beer cans and cartons were left in the hallways. We reported this to the hotel and they pretty much told us "too bad". We received no compensation for the inconvenience during our stay even though we had 12 people staying in 6 different rooms for the marathon. I would never stay in this hotel again nor would I recommend it to those I care about. At this time, management has responded to our letter and complaints.
Not a good place for the family

If I was in my twenties with no kids, this place would be ok. But as a forty year old with a small child, I didn't feel safe. We checked out twenty minutes after checking in and found a different hotel. The loud noise from the nightclub as well as passersby was too much.
