Not a Clean hotel-would not stay here!

Stayed with my husband and our 1 year old. From the beginning, we realized this was not a family hotel. There was a bar right next door and intoxicated adults were walking to and from the bar and hotel. Once inside, the cleanliness was extremely poor. The hotel was so old, it was even spooky looking. The rooms smelled awful, I was even afraid to put my son on the bed, much less allow him to step on the floor. Would never stay here again and would not recommend this to anyone, much less anyone traveling with children. It was just smelly, dirty, and gross!

Dont book a room here!

Our first room:The water in the shower went from ice cold to scalding hot without warning. The nice young guy at the front desk offered to upgrade our room for free. We were given a room up stairs and behind the "pool side" rooms. It was Friday, and the people traffic entering their rooms was loud all night.Okay, so just a bad night we thought. We left for the day, and when we came back about 3:30 there were about 30 college age kids partying and listenng to very loud music. Well, we couldn't hear the talking so much from our room, I was still able to take a nap but we could hear music, and at 6:00 the music stopped. But it became apparent that the "Kids" were not paid guests at the hotel. And, there was a full on DJ set up at pool side. A new clerk (who's name I now wish I had asked) was at the front desk. My husband asked "does this music go on all night and it looks like you let people who are not guests use the pool?" The new guy said "well Sir, when you book a pool side room you have to expect this and the music is supposed to stop at 6:00 and it did. And yes we do allow non-guests to use the facilities on the weekends" his attitude made my husband angry as we tried to explain we did not book "pool side" and that we are on our second room..that all we wanted to know is if it would be loud all night, because if so we would check out and expect a refund. Judging by the attitude of the clerk, they are asked these questions A LOT! very unpleasant stay, unprofessional clerk.

Perfect location; easy access to roads, sights, etc. etc. The bones of the hotel were wonderful; could be very romantic; full of history. However, sadly lacking in renovation. Things need to be replaced and improved; brings you back to the 40's and early 50's. The site should be saved for its historical value and lost beauty. But, it needs RENOVATION. So sad that the community does not care enough to sanction remodeling and enlargement; what a plus that would be for the area. HOWEVER, the staff is exceptional ... very helpful, very pleasant and the premises is extremely clean. Seems to be a favorite for families w/small children. Hard to say whether we would return or not. Sure hope it gets some enhancement.

Do Not Know Where To Start

The pictures and the description made the hotel sound nice. A little more expensive than I was looking for but sounded nice. I read the reviews, which were mixed, but thought you can't please everyone. I should have booked somewhere else. My families first room had an ac unit that barely worked and mildew in the bathroom. After going to dinner and returning to a hot room that the hotel staf had supposedly fixed, we finally had to ask for a new room, The second room we received was a large 2 room suite, which sounds great. However, it wasn't. The place had huge dirty spots on the carpet, curtains that would not shut properly and a shower that could scald you or freeze you at a moments notice. But at least the ac worked well in the new rooms. If the property would spend ALOT of money to update and renovate it would be nice. The area of town isn't the best, but it is close to Hotel Circle and quite a few restaraunts, etc. But, as is I would NOT recommend that anyone stay there especially for over $ a night. I will say that the staff was pleasant and we did have some decent towels.

I checked in on August 8/2008 Desk clerk was wonderful. Got into my room and latter picked up phone to call desk. The phone in room did not work, had to use my cell phone ( long distance call). I complained four times about that phone it never was properly repaired, meaning constantly using cell phone. This included room service which they do not have. Location of in hotel restraunts, only two of them. We turned on the air conditioner in the room it smelled like mold, turned on water in bathroom sink to rinse mouth after brushing tasted like mold. Turn on shower the water smelled like mold. Called and ask for extra pillows had them in less than five minutes. The room was spotless no sign of dust. even the windows were clean. Early morning brunch was wonderful, loby is beautiful. My parking was locked under ground parking, My room had two bed just as I asked. There isn't shuttle service to any place, and MacDonalds is right on the corner. And the walls in the Red Fox Restraunt were carved in 1560 in England so beautiful. The staff was really wonderful.
