I stayed here only one night. I had arrived by train from Philly via NYC. I stayed here because it was the closest hotel to the station. Upon arriving I got a cab to the hotel for $11.75 for two people. In Albany they pool fares and don't use meters. In retrospect, I'd probably use the convenient 14 bus for $1 which drops you off in front of the hotel. At any rate, the doorman was very friendly and polite. Inside, we checked in and were provided with an apple, a map, and directions for the place a coworker had chose for dinner. The room was clean and everything brand new. the bed was extremely comfortable. We walked three blocks for dinner and had breakfast in the hotel restaurant. Breakfast was hotel prices (expensive) but actually good (unusual for a hotel). The night before I had a drink in the lounge where people were generally sociable. The lounge has overlooks the street and has a "living room" set up witha fireplace in the rear. The area felt safe although it was fairly desolate after 9 pm or so. It's a shame the train is no longer at the bottom of the hill (train was removed for a highway long ago) because the old station is magnificent. The downtown area seems to be making a comeback or sorts.

Impressive in everyway!! From the second we check in to the eventual farewell enjoyed every minute of it. The food, service and decor rival some of the worlds best hotels. We look forward to our next trip!
