Great getaway

We went for a weekend and had a terrific time. We arrived a little early but the Front Desk staff was very accomodating and got us a room right away. The hotel says they have recently renovated and it shows. The room was bold, it had a great shower and the bed was just so comfortable. We caught the light rail at the hotel and ran down to SouthEnd for some great dining. The next day we checked out Uptown but it was a bit quiet. The bellman suggested we give the EpiCentre a try, and what a great idea! The place rocks! But then there is so much going on at night and the hotel is right in the middle of it all. We ordered Room Service next morning while we recovered which was a fantastic service to have. We even got a late check out to take our time. The trip and the hotel were great!
Nice, but...

This is an attractive hotel, for the most part, though some of the decor is very '70s looking and needs updating. Also, the bar and restaurant on the premises is HIDEOUS and the bartender who worked there the night I went there was rude and aggressively sold us "top shelf" tequila, resulting in $13-dollar margaritas. Which were also in tiny glasses. The room itself was on a high floor, which was nice, and it was clean. However, one of the curtain panels was falling down because a rod was broken and the handle on the toilet literally fell off when flushed. Also, someone had stolen the hairdryer, and it hadn't been replaced. Finally, this hotel charges for EVERYTHING. I don't travel a lot these days, so perhaps this is a common trend with the upper class hotels, but they charged $9.95 per every 24 hours for internet access. They charged way too much for local phone calls (can't remember the price), and they didn't supply any complimentary things, such as toothbrushes. The "fitness center" is not part of the hotel. It's attached to the hotel, but it's a YMCA which charges $10 each time you use it.
Also, this isn't the hotel's fault, but during this economic crisis in the country, I found Charlotte was hit really badly. Many, many stores and restaurants are closing their doors because of lack of business. Furthermore, this is a business district, not a fun area.

From start to finish, a horrid experience. Arrived at 5:30PM, and were told the no rooms were clean and ours would not be ready until after 7PM!! Had to find a small bathroom in the Wachovia Center next door to CHANGE CLOTHES out of our bags to attend an event that started before we could get into the room. After returning, room was ready. We found our room and were stunned to see the actual room number to ours was typed on a paper and TAPED to the wall!! We PRE-PAID through online travel website for a Deluxe King CORNER room and were given a plain, cheaper King room. The 2 cup coffee maker did NOT work and even though the maids could not have a clean room for us the day before, they managed to try to get into our room twice at the crack of dawn. Don't do it! And, this is the last time I will pre-pay.

Recap of my 5 nights..... First night air conditioning not up to par. By morning I was laying on top of all the sheets sweating. I called to have it fixed. The responded immediately but told me it would be easier to switch rooms. The front desk told me it would be hours till I could get another room. When I switched I left my GPS in the old room and by the time I got back to it the maid had obviously confiscated it. The hotel could have cared less. They promised security would follow up with me...they never did. They couldnt even change the name the room was under, even though I told them 4 times that my room was listed under the person who reserved the room. This in turn messed up the billing for the internet because it wouldnt let me bill to the room because of the name difference...every day I want internet it took a 20 min phone call to the provider. Even when I checked out they still didn't get the name right. To compensate me for my stolen GPS they credited me $20 of internet service haha are you kidding?
Great TV but watch out when a commercial comes on....the volume is 3 times louder than the show...it almost makes watching the tv unbearable. Enough of these pretentious hotel chains give me a motel 6 anyday over this place!!
