Actually pretty good, and I was with the family

I frequently travel to New York on both business and pleasure and would definitely recommend this hotel. This time I was here with my wife and daughter. The people that have given it bad marks either have champaign tastes or haven't visited New York very much. This room was huge by NYC standards (about 400 sq ft), complete with kitchen, bathroom, multiple closets, couch and queen bed. It was clean and decent. My wife is extremely sensitive to mold and chemical smells and seemed to do fine at this hotel, although it certainly is far from new. So what that the decor is dated and in need of updating? No bedbugs or roaches. Overall not bad - really! I just want to sleep here for the night, not buy the place - which you definitely feel like you're doing when staying in a midtown hotel. We spent $* plus taxes on a night's stay. On this particular night I couldn't find anything less that $* and many over $*in midtown that were three stars and above. That's a month's rent in many parts of the country. We live in a very nice, new house in the suburbs, and trust me folks, you'll be fine if you stay at the Eastgate Tower. The location is great for sightseeing, Time's Square, shows, etc. You won't want to walk there, but it's just a $* cab ride away. Because the hotel's on a cross street (39th), to get a cab you either use the one that's dropping off hotel guests or walk a half block to 3rd Ave and get one (20 drive by every minute). Lots of nice bars and restaurants on 3rd between 30th and 40th. Save your money for a half price show ticket and stay here!

Great location, near Grand Central RR Station, Mid-town Tunnel, shops

Basically this is an apartment hotel, so you have the convenience of housekeeping, but the room is actually more roomier than a standard hotel. There's a small kitchen, and dining table, so it's easy to bring in food or heat-up leftovers. Adjacent to the building on the west side is a courtyard that is convenient to have a cup of coffe, and read the paper. The bathroom has all the little amenities such as soaps and toiletries, so air travelers don't have to tote their own. An easy walk to Third or Second Avenues to find coffee shops, grocery & drug stores.

very spacious rooms, centrally located, good value for money

Unclean, & badly in need of complete renovation!

This hotel was the worst I have ever been in. Its lobby was extremely uninviting, even smaller than pictured, and the staff was equally unfriendly. The photos are misleading. The hotel is dreary, run down, and smells awful. The terrible smell was most likely due to age, and from previous water damage, of which there was evidence on both the furniture and base boards. As far as I am concerned, this hotel is unfit for guests. I am unsure how anyone could find this hotel satisfactory. I would definitely not recommend staying here, and would be suspicious of any other hotels in this particulare chain.

Wonderful Hotel

I have been coming to NY for 30 years and I used to be a city tour guide in NY as well so I was in NY several times a week. This is by far the best hotel for the value that I have ever stayed at. Rooms were large and comfortable. Staff was so helpful and friendly. It is a short walk to the subway and cabs were easy to get as well. The restaurant was closed but there are plenty of other places to go. I love this hotel and the staff. I am definitely returning. I stayed here with several friends and we had plenty of room for all of us compared to the pint sized rooms I have stayed in before - this was a luxury!
