If you have never been to San Jose Costa Rica you will soon see that it can be a very dirty and dangerous city. But the Sleep Inn acts as an oasis in this crazy city. It is very clean, the staff are polite and helpful (especially for the non spanish speaking folks), and the security is great. This hotel is in the middle of all of the action but with its high security walls and ample sucurity staff you feel like you can leave the madness of this party town and rest in a safe and clean hotel. PS The hotel has its own resturants and casinos also.
Good hotel if insist on staying downtown San Jose

This hotel exceeded my expectations for the hotel itself. It was nicer than Sleep Inns in the US. It was a very good value for the money. If you insist on staying downtown I would recommend this hotel. It has a fenced compound with security. If you have a rental car it will be safe. However, I do not plan to stay downtown on my next visit. San Jose is safe during the day, but I do not recommend walking around at night. If you want to check out the downtown area, this hotel is in a good location. There are restaurants with typical Costa Rican food, bakeries, a flea market, and the National Museum all within 4 blocks of the hotel. If your flights do not require a night in San Jose, I would not waiste my time in the city. If you need to stay in the area because of flights, I would recommend staying on the outskirts of town or between town and the airport.
