Wasn't what I expected

This was the second hotel we stayed at during a family road trip. I think the hotel was just fine, except I had two issues during our stay. First, I had booked online for a non-smoking room with 2 double beds. However, that's not what I got. I got a room on a floor with the hallway reeking of cigarette smoke and the room itself had a faint smell of smoke. I called down to the front desk and the girl (who never gave me her name) wasn't very courteous about it. She wasn't outright rude, but her tone was a little snippy while she explained to me that she didn't have anymore nonsmoking double beds rooms. I told her that I paid for a non-smoking room, though (my receipt says so), and she said that since I booked through a third party (online travel website)I can only REQUEST a non-smoking room and that it's not guaranteed (what???). My understanding is, if that's what I paid for, then that's what I should get. Unfortunately, she didn't see it that way, and I just didn't want to get into it with her. That was my second issue. The staff wasn't very customer service oriented when I had a problem with the room. When I checked into the room, she didn't even tell me that she couldn't accommodate my booking with a nonsmoking room; she just sent me up there to have me find out for myself. I think an excellent customer service oriented hotel would try to make any kind of accommodation to the customer by offering a discount of some sort. However, she neither sounded very apologetic nor like she wanted to find another way to satisfy me, the customer. Because of that, I'm not willing to stay here again.

I dint expect thishotel to be so great. The employees were warm and inviting and full of suggestions for things to do in the area. The room was oversized, clean and cozy. There clean dishes with a serving setting for 4. I didnt expect such great hospitality, but received it in every way. I called for more clean towels and they arrived within seconds. Will stay there again for sure.
