Everything was great. Clean. Reasonably priced room. Bar and restaurant inside seemed expensive but MANY local places just oustide hotel. Would have liked a bigger more modern TV, but not the end of the world compared to everything else that was perfect.
Unless you are attending an event don't stay here

The hotel was very nice. The front desk was accomodating. The buffet breakfast was ordinary but well stocked. The noise and confusion going on was dreadful. They had meetings and weddings going on all the time. Perhaps because it was the month of June but with all the commotion it was not a restful or peaceful stay. The one group had children constantly running the halls of the hotel without supervision. There were cocktail parties everywhere and bands playing into the night. Not a hotel for the average travel. Probably great for the convention or wedding attendee.

Got nicest room offered online for weekend getaway, and would say it was better than good, but not overwhelming. Single best thing about the room: blow-you-away shower pressure; torrential downpour; farthest from efficient, but oh-so-relaxing! Least best thing: free internet via super cruddy CAT-5 cable in drawer; cable kept popping out as the little latches on the ends were broken.
Had dinner at Voice, the hotel restaurant, and chose the 7-course chef selection, which I and my date found very pleasing. The atmosphere is comfortable, the service excellent, the food superb, and the price acceptable ($300: two 7-course chef selections, 1 bottle of wine, and some foie gras, and gratuity). Michael Kramer, the chef, introduced himself at our table afterwards, a very approachable and immediately likeable individual with obvious talent.
The front desk personnel were courteous, as were the other staff. Valet parking is $26/day. There is a great park caddy-corner to the hotel garage, important for our dogs. The Icon is a dog friendly hotel and they were very supportive of pet care, a nice change compared to other hotels at which I have stayed.
In the final assessment, you will not go wrong here, and the high star rating is well deserved. I know I'll be back.

Great liitle hotel in a historic building that was Houston's first bank. Large, comfortable rooms, though a little pricey. Restaurant in lobby looks nice, but again, pricey. Mezzanine bar is a fun place. Rooms on south side overlook a Houston jazz bar, and the windows do not provide enough sound-proofing. If you don't like jazz, this place will keep you up at night. Be sure to request a room on the north side. The view is not good, but you'll get a good night's sleep. The bathrooms are large and unique, with huge shower stalls. Two shower heads provide for a great morning wakeup. Not the most convenient location, and not on the downtown Houston tunnel system. Some good little downtown restaurants are nearby.

We came to Houston to watch baseball and the hotel is within walking distance of Minute Maid Park. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. When we arrived, we left our laptop in the cab. They tracked down our laptop and brought it up to our room within 15 minutes. Wow. This hotel is in the good part of the business district and there are quite a few nice restaurants you can walk to. The restaurant in the hotel was very good as well. We would definately stay again.
