stayed there 9 days and had excellent service. the staff was friendly and the maid service did
a very good job of cleaning the room daily. We would stay there again. The location of the hotel is in a very good spot for getting around.

My husband and I were very pleased with the State Plaza Hotel. It is located in Foggy Bottom near the Mall. Our room included a full kitchen and a dressing room off the bath. The feeling was like an apartment. It was quiet in the evening,a great place to rest up for the next day's sightseeing. A drug store is located adjacent to the hotel. They carry soft drinks ,breakfast stuff, and other sundries. I would stay here again. The restaurant is the only thing I could criticize. It was overpriced and the service was not good. However I would still encourage anyone to try the hotel and eat breakfast in the room and eat elsewhere during the day. The
staff is very friendly and willing to please. By th way the restaurant is managed separately. The cost is quite moderate.

I really think this hotel deserves another star or two. While not in the luxury category, it's in many, many ways nicer than the typical 3 or three and a half star hotel. The rooms are big, well-lighted, comfortably furnished and have absolutely sumptuous linens. The location, just a couple of blocks from the Nat'l Mall and on the edge of the GWU campus, is very convenient to all the touristy stuff and the student ambiance and energy are fun. The metro is close, most everything is a short cab ride away, but if you don't want to venture far to eat, there's the kitchen in the room, but also lots of inexpensive places around the campus. It's very quiet at night. The Plaza's highest rating goes to the friendly and helpful staff. One desk clerk overheard a conversation my husband and I were having about some restaurants and before another hour passed, he'd sent up a packet of Internet research about those places and some others like them.
The only negative was the associated restaurant which offered a freebie style breakfast for way, way too much money. Fruit, yogurt and not even a beverage for $10 plus an 18% gratuity didn't impress me.
Everything else about the State Plaza did impress me though, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

The hotel definitely met our expectations. We were only blocks from a Metro station which made it very nice to travel within the city. The room was adequate for 2 adults and a 13 year old boy. It was nice to have a separate kitchen for bringing back treats and snacks for bed time. The dressing room allowed extra space for everyone while we prepared for the day's adventures. The beds were very comfortable! The personnel at the hotel are very friendly and helpful, including the tip that if there are 3 of you, take a taxi to and from the Ronald Reagan airport, it's cheaper than the Blue Shuttle! It is an older hotel, but a very pleasant stay.
