Ambassador Hotel

One of the ubiquitous high-rise hotels just off the beach in Waikiki, the Ambassador is not a very memorable place. We were there because a friend had a relative who worked there and got us a decent deal--$50 a night for an upgraded room. We didn't really do much in the hotel--kept our stuff there, slept, and had one night of hanging out with friends in our room. The staff was nice, and the place is clean, quiet, and walking distance from the shopping center in the middle of the Waikiki strip. We did get a kitchenette, which we didn't really use, and a balcony, which we also didn't use. And the view was of the other budget high-rises in Waikiki. But for $50, it's one of the better bargains in Hawaii.

If you book on the Web, you can get a room for $59: http://ambassadorwaikiki.com.
