We would stay again

Our family decided to take a last minute trip to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Using online travel website Top Deals, I booked the Travelodge because of the (mostly) positive reviews, central location and the price ($*USD) after taxes. Upon arriving the front desk staff was fast, friendly & helpful. They set us up with a crib for our 18 mos old. And gave us a good recommendation to a nearby family restaurant (Carrusso's). We found our room clean and well stocked with towels etc. Cable TV worked perfect. The two Queen size beds were OK. The carpet & linens were crisp, not worn. The room felt safe and was in overall good shape for being older construction. We didn't use the in-room refrigerator or microwave, but it was there if we needed it. The pool was heated and huge - my 10 year old loved it. They served a reasonable cold cereal, toasted bagel or pastry breakfast included in the room rate - the hotel location was about a mile or so away from the Aquarium. Very easy access to and from the freeway. . My only recommendation to those considering a stay at this motel would be to request a room near the pool - as we did. Even if not thinking to swim, those units appeared in better shape than others in different buildings. They have a restaurant and bar and a fitness center on site, none of which we used. A fair warning; the motel is apparently on the Monterey Airport flight path, so we heard a few planes go over. For what we paid and what we got, I don't think you could find a better deal or room.
Don't count on sleeping

This hotel is located below grade at the end of the runway. Planes land as late as midnight and are only a few hundred feet above your head. Also, adjoining rooms are rented individually as singles and have zero soundproofing between them, so your conversations are heard as if the wall did not exist! Font desk will not allow early check in if you arrive before 1PM. Wifi was down for approx 36 hours waiting for a service tech, who didn't show up the first day of the outage.
Enjoyable

Good value for money, although I was surprised to find out that there was no A/C. No big deal. The stay was pleasant and the free breakfast was excellent. Location was central, accessible to freeways and downtown and attractions. Frontdesk was OK.

My family of 4 and one dog recently had a very plesant stay. We had a very nice 2nd level room with 2 queens, private balcony that overlooked the pool. The facility was very clean, the rooms were recently updated and very clean. It was quiet - no planes flying overhead all night long that I heard and the breakfast was very nice. Penty of food, rolls, muffins, bagels, toast, cereal, hardboiled eggs and fresh fruit. They also had fresh coffe and juice. The staff was very professional. I would definately stay here again!
The location was very central to the activities we were interested in - Fishermans Warf, Aquarium, Carmel, restaurants. I also highly recommend the Old Wife's Fish House - great food!
