My husband and I took a trip to Washington DC to celebrate my birthday. Two of our dear friends joined us. Since we had never stayed there before, we had no idea what the hotels were like. I did my research online, and really liked what I saw and read about this hotel. I was even more pleasantly surprised when we arrived. It is true, the elevator could have been a pain, if we allowed it to be, but we were able to find people when we needed them. When we didn't, we walked the 4 flights. (we are all between 53-65 years of age) The rooms were large and the beds and pillows were outstandingly comfortable. We had a coffee maker, and a mini fridge so we purchased half & half at the local store. We dined twice at the hotel restaurant and although a little pricey, the food was great, service also great. Everyone greeted us with a smile, and was anxious to assist us in any way. The hotel is conveniently located to so many things. We walked to all the memorials, monuments, White House, Capital and museums. However, the metro and cabs were available when we wanted them. Across the street is Kinkeads restaurant where we dined on my birthday. The food, music and ambiance was great there also. There are TONS of Starbucks around, for coffee lovers. All in all, we were very happy with our stay.

Older hotel very centrally located; the staff was very gracious; and the "X" value was very good. The only somewhat down side is the elevators are very old and hand operated by the valet staff, occassionally causing a delay in departing. My room was very spacious, with a great view of Pennsylvania Avenue - very clean. Fabulous charming quiet cocktail lounge on the ground floor of the hotel. I would definitely stay in the Lombardy again and recommend it to others.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Lombardy Hotel on Pennsylvania Ave during August 2008. The service was great, the room was immaculate and the restaurant was top class. It was only 2 1/2 blocks from the Metro. We would definitely stay there again.

Overnight Refuge

We stayed here for a quick overnighter before an early morning departure from Dulles Int'l Airport. We arrived in the early evening the night before, after a long train ride, so the easy walk from either the West Farragut or Foggy Bottom Metro stations was a major attraction, as was the in-house restaurant, which is a charming, small-scale, art-deco setting with very attentive, personalized service and excellent meals. Our suite provided a separate-room refuge for our teenage daughter, separated from our bedroom by a spacious hallway/entry with a separate entrance for the bathrom. The elevator must be operated by an attendant, as it is the original, antique system, which is nonetheless very fast and efficient. We had a 4:00 a.m. departure from the hotel, and the bell service was very efficient, ensuring a taxi was waiting to take us to Dulles, checkout was prepared in advance, and the elevator operator was running the lift 24 hours a day (I rode it at 3:00 a.m. and also at 4:00 a.m.) It was a very pleasant, quiet, relaxing stay in a charming, retro-style buiilding that is well maintained in its original, authentic style. Roomy, clean, full of character. Staff is polite, helpful, and efficient.
