It's not fancy, just a beach motel.

We stayed here because it is the closest hotel to our daughter's home. The carpet was dirty and the room has definitely seen better days (especially the bathroom). The bed hurt my back. However, the bedding and bathroom were clean and the TV worked, and that's all we expected for the price. I can't say we'll definitely stay here again but wouldn't rule it out. If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive beach motel that you don't have to worry about kids making noise, this is a good place. However, it's not a place I would choose for a romantic getaway.

Incredibly Charming

The hotel was built in 1942 as the Surf Hotel and Apartments. It is not a luxurious as many of the other hotels along the coast, but a great value for the location. Most rooms are either one-bedroom suites or mini suites with full kitchens. I stayed in a mini suite that did not have a kitchen, but had a private balcony. The view was incredible!!! The staff was great and met every request with a smile. The designer toiletries that would be expected at a posh resort impressed me. I was traveling to Long Beach for the Dec 07 Eukanuba Dog Show. The hotel was recently remodeled and had changed their pet policy, but still let me stay with my show dog. Located next door to Bluff Park, it was a perfect get-away from everything with a great place to walk my dog. Bluff park is also a great place for a picnic, frisbee or the kids to burn off steam. Sadly I was told that there are plans to tear it down to replace it with a high-rise hotel and Condos some time next year.

met all my expectations and more

I was surprised to see the newly renovated hotel when we arrived, not only did the outside get a complete face lift but the rooms are so much more comfortable and updated. I love staying here because you have your own private access to the beach along with ocean views from your room. The location is also perfect for visiting all the great attractions in Long Beach. Clean, Quiet, great location, and not to mention cheap, we loved it!!

The room was as expected for a motel for this price on the beach. I had booked a room with two beds, but I guess they gave it to some one else before we got there so we had to pay extra for a room with a bed and a pull out sofa bed that was uncomfortable. I guess they use more of a first come first serve system then a reservation system. You should also nte that they do not have A/C in the rooms if that will be an issue for you. The location was pretty good overall.

The Beach Plaza Hotel in Long Beach, CA may look tiny compared to its high-rise cousins. However, once inside, the visitor will become amazed at the beautiful beachfront rooms and the sound of the ocean drifting off of the walls. Each guest has private beach access. The staff offers a full continental breakfast in the morning, then only one mile away is Downtown Long Beach.
