Description: The Hilton hotel located on Post Oak Boulevard in Houston, Texas is where my fiancé and I spent 6 nights of our recent trip to Houston.
Booking and Prices
---------------------------
The Hilton website has a separate page for each of its hotels across the globe. On these pages you can get information on all the facilities that are on offer as well as check photos and virtual tours.
To book, there is a room availability checker that allows you to see if there is space for when you would like to stay and which types of rooms are available, of course the prices are also included here. These can be viewed in both US dollars or UK pounds. I really liked this feature, as at the time, we were booking well in advance of our trip. I found it helpful to keep an eye on the price of a few weeks and look in both dollars and Pounds to see if the exchange rate was effecting both equally to make sure I got the best deal.
We booked our room a few months in advance as I didn't want to leave it too late and be disappointed.
For 6 nights, for 2 adults sharing a 1 King Bed Room, cost us a litle over 800 pounds for a stay in March/April.
I was happy with this price as I knew with a Hilton we had a name with which we would know what to expect. I was not taken by most of the hotels and smaller cheaper hotels that I found when looking for a hotel so was happy to spend a little extra for a little luxury and peace of mind.
After booking online I received a confirmation email confirming all of my details and payment receipt. They only take credit cards as an international hotel.
Arrival and Location
----------------------------
We flew to the Houston International Airport which we had been told was roughly 30 minutes from the Hotel. Jumping in a cab about $50 later, we arrived outside the hotel after a lovely half hour drive through the city.
First impressions of the hotel were very positive. The building itself is a 13 storey modern and stylish block. The usual Hilton logo was on the top. The first thing that stuck me as we pulled up was the location. The surrounding area of the "Business District" is immaculate. Not one blade of grass out of place and not one cigarette butt or piece of rubbish as far as the eye could see. The area and the hotel both together made me very happy that we were in for a decent 4* stay as we were expecting.
The immaculate theme that most of Houston seems to have in place spilled over effortlessly into the hotel lobby. The beautiful open glass entryway was spotless and we were greeted by a doorman who asked if we needed any assistance with our bags.
The reception area is large and open and has plenty of room for guests arriving and leaving without any crowds. There was ample seating for about 15 people if they were waiting for someone else to check them in etc, as my other half did. The actual check in desk had 3 spaces maned with staff, not once did I see this with any more than one person waiting and more staff would simply come out if a queue started to form.
I confirmed my booking with the lady on reception and was given 2 room keys, one for me and one for my fiancé, and given directions to our room. The process was quick and efficient and we headed to the elevators located in the centre of the lobby.
Our Room
---------------
Our King Bed room was located on the 11th floor and was no smoking as I believe the whole of the hotel was. On opening the door my first thoughts were to how solid and sturdy the door seemed. Made from a beautiful dark oak it looked very secure and also gave me hope of blocking out hallway noise in the mornings.
On entering the room the bathroom was to the right and was amazing. It was simply huge and had plenty of space, there was a dressing table located in the entranceway to the actual bathroom where the large bath/shower and toilet was located. This dressing table had a huge sink and mirror with plenty of space to mess around getting ready. We were provided with a shower cap, shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, mouth wash and body lotion.
The main room was very large with a massive (and comfy) bed at its centre. We had a TV placed inside a cabinet opposite the bed and a side table on either side of the bed, both with clock radios and side lamps.
There was a large oak desk in the corner of the room with the telephone, plenty of writing equipment and various literature detailing all the phone extensions as well as manuals for the mini bar that was next to the desk and how to use the TV and a full menu of what is available for room service.
We also had a large relining chair in the room for somewhere else to sit.
The balcony gave us gorgeous views over the city and a beautiful skyline, especially as we arrived just as the sun started going down. It was a little high for my liking and I couldn't look straight down, but then I am a sufferer of vertigo anyway!
Room Service
--------------------
On the night we arrived, we got to our room gone 8 in the evening local time and were too tired from traveling to venture out. We called down for room service after choosing from the large selection menu and our food arrived within 20 minutes. Freshly cooked and tasted great. We were given complimentary drinks, even though they weren't ordered and a fresh glass of flowers, nice touch!
The chambermaid service for the whole of our stay was brilliant. We kept our do not disturb sign up on the door until we were ready to leave for the day, as we didn't want to be woken early or at all. No matter what time we left the hotel and no matter how long for, we can back to a freshly cleaned room. The bed was made, dirty towels replaced and all soaps etc were topped up or replaced. We were left with free bottles of water even though we were happy to buy our own or use the mini bar.
I felt very secure in this hotel which is something I appreciate. I never felt like I had to lock my suitcase or hide anything.
General Service
-----------------------
If we had any questions at all regarding our room, the stay, local attractions or even just a question like the time should we have wished, they had a contact for everything. The reception staff were fantastically helpful and changed up travelers cheques for me, as well as being always polite and would great you as you arrived or departed.
They have a concierge desk that I never saw unmanned, they were available for help with planning days out or suggesting anything you may be after. We had a car booked for us on the day we visited NASA as it would have been cheaper than a cab and also more convenient as we could call the driver whenever we were available to go wherever we wanted after. The concierge suggested this after I asked the best way to get there. If he hadn't, cabs for the day would have worked out about $50 more expensive.
I think the service really made the stay so great for us. We felt safe and looked after and not afraid to ask if we needed anything or had a question, not to mention if something was wrong, not that we encountered a need to complain at all.
Overall
----------
This is a fantastic hotel. Its great value for money and you get amazing service and a beautiful room with everything you would imagine. Its located in a beautiful part of Houston and is only 1 block away from the Galleria mall.
The room was amazing and the views breathe taking. I simply cannot fault any aspect of the hotel. We didn't have any need to use the gym or business facilities that were available but I wouldn't hesitate in assuming they would have been just as professional as the rest of the hotel.
We had a lovely stay and 6 great nights sleep! I was actually very sad to leave and if I was to visit Houston again for any reason, I would definitely stay at the lovely hotel.
