Thanksgiving vacation with family

After booking this hotel for a family of five, we arrived to check in on Thanksgiving evening to discover they couldn't accomodate 5 in the room. I had very specifically serached for a hotel that could, and even researced The Amalfi to make certain they had roll-away beds. The clerk that checked us in was very unhelpful, so we asked to speak to a manager. After learning that their own website gaveinformation about roll-aways, they finally fixed the situation by comping an additional adjoined room. The rooms were very nice, if a bit small, and everything was fine until it was time to check out. Not only did they charge us for the comp room, they charged us for the room we had already paid for. We again asked for the manager, but had to wait until she came in for the day at 11 AM. The previous manager hadn't made any notes about the comp room. They did finally fix it. The staff- other than the desk clerk, were very polite and extremely helpful.

Had a great stay. Aveda products given. Breakfast every morning on every floor. The happy hour drinks were yummy with plenty of fun people to hang out with.

The Amalfi was recommended to us by a friend. It even exceeded our expectaions.
This relatively small hotel has a great European flavor. The decor is Italian-modern, and it was absolutely spotless. Our room was modest in size, but very adequate for two. (They may have other larger rooms).
The continental breakfast, set out on each floor was great. Only about 20 steps to get my first cup of coffee. Nice selection of fruit, pastry, juice, yogurt, bagels, and some days doughnuts.
The late afternoon "happy hour" was outstanding, with top shelf drinks, and the featured house drink, the Amalfitini. The buffet was a nice selection of Italian items
Others have commented on the friendliness of the staff. I have to second that, right down to the maintenance people.
Add to this its convenient location, and it all added up to a great vacation.

We are small town simple people and let me tell you that we felt totally spoiled at this hotel. Upon arrival at 8:30 a.m. we were able to check into our fabulous room early. The front desk was very helpful for out-of-towners. They had lots of suguesstions on great thing to do and had tickets for just about anything. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable for our group of four. The bathrooms were also very spacious with exceptionally nice shower/towels/Aveda toiletries. The flat screen tv and bar were nice bonuses. The pillowtop beds and feather pillows were more comfortable then ours at home and provided a great nights sleep. There wasn't much of a veiw out our north window on the third floor but hotel is literally two blocks away from the Mag Mile and one block from the river. We were treated with free continental breakfast each morning. No hot food but the choices were excellent. Also there was free coctails and drinks in the lounge from 5:30 to 7:30 each night. The business center had computer and printers available to help us with our online checking with the airport. I have nothing but great things to say about this hotel and staff. If ever in Chicago again we will definately be staying at the Amalfi hotel no questions asked!

This hotel met our needs perfectly. It was clean, well located for walking anywhere downtown,
safe, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful in giving us downtown walking directions, dining suggestions, and securing public transportation to and from the airport. The happy hour was also a great addition to the hotel services.
