We are delighted to be returning to the Dana Place Inn this year for February school vacation. Our stay last year was relaxed and comfortable, and the food was truly excellent. This older inn had many quaint touches, an extremely pleasant and helpful staff, and a fabulous location just outside of the White Mountain National Forest, at the foot of MT. Washington. Our room was large, pleasant and clean, the beds comfortably firm, and the overall experience a bargain for the price. Our 7 year old son loved snaking his way through the various hallways (think a country home, with "'ells") to the pool and hot tub. We all appreciated the 'apres-ski' snacks available in the lounge area in the afternoons. We also loved seeing the birds at the feeder just outside the breakfast room window. Unlike some older hotels or cheap, newer ones, we found no problem with tthe noise level-it was peaceful. While the TV was on the small side and the building an antique, we found it charming. If you are looking for sterile uniformity, go to a big box hotel. This diginified yet easygoing country inn made us feel welcomed and well cared for. We can't wait to see the renovations ! The other guests tended toward famillies, with a few younger couples thrown in.

We loved the Dana Place. We stayed this Fall and had the best time.
We had the top floor of the Tree House. Very large, clean and deck over the river. The master bedroom had a queen bed and the living area had a sitting space and 2 twins for our grown children. The minfidge was an added plus.
The room had new tile bathroom and rugs. We may have been the first to use it. The triple sheeting on the bed was nice.
We had the package that included dinner 1 night. It may have been the best meal at a hotel I have ever had.
Staff was great, location is the best. We can't wait to go back

I thought this was a high-end hotel. Boy was I wrong! Actually I was only half wrong. It does have high end pricing but that's where the high end treatment stops. This hotel is well past it's prime - if it ever had one.
Though the authentic colonial building has a storied history dating back to the eighteen hundreds and has beautiful lawns that roll to the Ellis river in back that's not enough to save this place. Everywhere you look the property is run down and poorly maintained. New additions and renovations are cheap and poorly constructed. The separate cottage I stayed in, though generous in size, has Walmart level finishes: cheap lighting fixtures, a tiny bath vanity, and a two by four railing leading up to the bedroom. Outside debris surrounded the parking area, flower beds were unattended, and the siding and trim were worn and tired. My wife insisted I mention the musty odor as well.
To give credit where due, the young and attentive waitstaff seemed blithely unaware that they were not working at Ritz. Also we purchased a dinner with our reservation and by the time Friday night came around we had reservations, serious reservations! We were surprised by a delicious dinner, fresh, creative, obviously the work of a seasoned gourmet.
The dinner was well worth. OK for a up-scale resort, for the Dana Place it was a rip-ff.
Still No Changes since our stay in JULY

I had hoped that after our complaints to the Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce, the Inn would address the issues my family experienced. I see this is not the case as things have not changed. We could not even get the management to respond to our many phone calls and emails. When they decided to respond they denied everything! The Board of Health needs to show up unannounced...I made this recommendation!!! Believe me....chipped paint, stained linens, moldy odors and general uncleanliness are unacceptable and need to be addressed! Also, the online photos are way outdated and I see these are also still up and running! Trust me we travelled for several hours and left without a refund with two very small children (Inn policy...must call business office next business day for a refund...no Manager available and finally as mentioned the BUSINESS OFFICE DOES NOT RETURN CALLS FOR A REFUND) Had to go through our credit card to get a refund!!!
I pass this along because it is the absolute truth....

I found my stay at the Dana Place Inn one of complete enjoyment. I found the room VERY clean and the grounds meticulously kept. The indoor pool was also VERY clean as was the hot tub. I also found the staff friendly and helpful. I don't know what people expect when booking a "country" inn. This inn is old and quaint just as pictured on the website. Also, the food was EXCELLANT!! My complements to the chef.
I would advise anyone wanting to stay in the woods in an old country inn to choose the Dana Place!
