I thought the hotel was great. Great location in the middle of shopping and restaurants..The staff was very friendly and helpful.(Even furnished us with umbrellas when it was raining)Our room was very clean, comfortable and had lots of admenities that made our stay wonderful such as the bed turn down service with chocolate, wake up call in the morning with newspaper and coffee. Would highly recommend this hotel. Can't go wrong.

Portland Regency Hotel

We found this hotel by watching Don Imus on Imus in the Morning: he and his staff stayed at the Regency during a trip to Portland for the show and made it sound so luxurious that we just had to check it out.

When you arrive at the Portland Regency Hotel, you are promptly greeted by one of the hotel staff members and your car is parked by the valet while you bring your bags inside (with help from the staff if desired). Check-in is a breeze and  the staff is friendly and accommodating. You can stay in one of the many suites at the Regency or in a regular guest room, like we did. Some of the guest rooms are located in places of the building, where the ceiling slopes quite low. If this will bother you, let them know or request a room change right away. The first time we stayed there we were assigned one of those rooms and got a bit claustrophobic within the first few minutes, but we were easily accommodated in a room with a higher ceiling.

The Regency offers many luxuries that other hotels do not. If you place a wake-up call, fresh, hot coffee will arrive at your room soon after the call in the morning.

We chose not to eat at the restaurant (Twenty Milk Street) at the Regency on our most recent visit. Twenty Milk Street is new and seems overpriced for something that is not very special. There are so many great places to eat it Portland that we didn't want to miss out on them by risking what looked to be a mediocre meal judging by the menu. That is my only complaint about the Regency, and I'm sad to have to make it, because they used to have an excellent restaurant where my family enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago.

The Portland Regency Hotel is located in the Old Port, within walking distance of many of Portland's attractions. Be sure to take advantage of the binder that lists the hotel services and local area attractions as well as the large brochure rack in the lobby.
