Pre Mardis Gras

I wouldn't rate this hotel as 4-star. First of all they mixed up our reservation and tried to place us in a different room. Our room had stains on the carpet and furniture. Maid service did not refill sugar or cups for coffee and left wet towels in bathroom. Also, be warned that no matter what the price of your room is, parking in the Hilton Garage is $30 per night. It's cheaper to park across the street at the casino parking. They will validate for unlimited parking with only 30 minutes of play.

A High Class Conference Hotel

A High Class Conference Hotel

The New Orleans Riverside appears to go on for blocks - since it is connected to the RiverWalk, but unlike most conference hotels it has an easy layout. When entering you land on the first floor with a classy, busy restaurant and concierge desk, but you must go up one level (elevators or escalator) to the lobby level. They have several kiosks for checking in, or printing boarding passes, at the bell station along with several staff at the check-in desk. I was informed promptly that I had two packages waiting for me - which is a huge plus as hotels of this size frequently lose packages, and I knew it was off to a good start.

My room was a bit musty upon walking in, but then the air kicked on (In November?) and the room was fine. I had a large king bed, a small bathroom and a great 16th floor view of the river. The flat screen TV was located next to the desk, and the room was spacious enough for a two night stay. Crabtree & Eveyln products were in the bathroom. An easy one or two cup coffee machine was located just beside the TV (not hidden away in a drawer, hard to find) with sugars and caf & decaf, though not delicious it worked early in the morning.

The hotel advertised an enormous fitness center that locals could also be a member of, both on the website and in the elevators, but the area where it existed was being constructed upon.

The conference area consisted of a huge ballroom on the first floor and a smaller ballroom and breakout rooms on the third floor, up two escalators. The rooms were adequate and the area spacious so it did not seem as if you were cramped in a small space.

Located near the French Quarter, the hotel location was great - on the river, near the action and close to great restaurants and downtown shopping.

Though I was mis-told on when the package room was open and the man who came to open the room was none too friendly, everyone else was very pleasant and accommodating on the Hilton staff. Even with a high school conference on site with 800 students running around, the hotel was relatively quiet.

If you are looking for a pleasant experience for a business trip - this is highly recommended. If you are looking for the New Orleans flair, I recommend heading elsewhere - perhaps in the French Quarter above one of the famous bars!

HORRIBLE HOTEL - wouldn't ever stay here

This hotel stay was horrible. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay here. Usually, HIlton hotels are very nice, however, this one isn't. I stayed here for a convention and it was horrible. They would do construction at 7AM (!!!), my closet doors were broken so that I couldn't access the closet. My window curtains broke after I tried to pull them and I was charged $30 for the minibar that I didn't even touch. When I tried to get these charges taken off my credit card, the staff was not only rude, but didn't take the charges off after promising this to me. I called back three times and the charges are still on my credit card. Stay anywhere else... it is not worth it. The hotel is very rundown which you wouldn't expect for the price. The marriott down the street is much nicer for a similar price. Oh, and I had to pay to use the gym which they don't tell you either!

Simple Mistake....refused to help....

My fiancee and I booked our room for the Hilton online. Apparently, once you do this, the room is SET IN STONE! I knew this from the fine print, but I had no idea how uncooperative their customer service would be. We had a Mardi Gras ball to attend on which I thought was Jan. 26th, but it turned out that it was actually on the 25th. We called the hotel to see if they wouldn't mind just CHANGING the date and just MOVING the hotel room to the 25th. Even though they had PLENTY of rooms available, the Hilton REFUSED to move the room. They said all they could do was give us ANOTHER room for the 25th. By doing this, we would be out over 400 dollars. We even offered to pay the difference in room price because it was $207 for the room we paid for, but $229 for the room they had for Friday. They still REFUSED to help us out. Consequently, we had to cancel the tux rental, which we lost money on and had to stay in the room on the 26th only because we paid for it. It's very disappointing that a highly regarded hotel like the Hilton could be so insensitive and have such lousy customer service. It's not that they COULDN'T help us, it's that they WOULDN'T help us. On top of everything, the hotel CHARGES for you to use their internet service. Even the motel 6 has free internet for goodness sake!!!! So please, beware of the fact that your money could be wasted if you stay here!

An okay hotel in a city full of great hotels

The Hilton is always reliable on cleanliness and a great staff but the hotel's hype as being super has passed. The hotel rooms were clean and comfy but you can get a nicer room with a better view and softer bed at places like the Sheraton on Canal or the JW Marriott. Our Mardi Gras ball was in the grand ballroom and it was pretty decent and our waitress was AWESOME. Overall, the Hilton is a great place to stay if you want to go to Harrah's or the Riverwalk but there are much more convenient places to the French Quarter and much nicer rooms available in the city for the price.
