Good location to things. It could be a death trap. Small elevator, 2 people at most with luggage and very small stairway. No way to get out quickly in case of an fire. Weekend desk person not friendly. Not worth the price.

"Great price, great location"

I am a single female who traveled to NYC alone. I was very concerned about safety, but found the Herald Square hotel to be very safe. The area immediately around it isn't the best, but less than half a block away are two very busy streets that are safe. I never felt unsafe and was very pleased with what I got for the price. The location is excellant.

One of the few places in NY you can have your own room with private bathroom for under $100 a night. Comfy bed. Rest like Motel with better artwork. Fairly convenient location in garment district. I had very noisy neighbors. Good choice for budget minded travelers.

Hotel Herald Square

Simple, basic, clean, and safe. The hotel offers rooms for single travelers with shared bath facilities for only $70 including tax. They also have larger rooms available.

Hotel Herald Square is just off of 5th Ave and three blocks from the Empire State Bldg. Location was great. The staff was friendly, check-in and -out was complication-free, and they can arrange your transportation to the airport for a small fee ($2). The hotel used to be the old Life Magazine Building and has an interesting history. I stayed in a single room and had to share a bath but had a mirror and sink in my room, as well as A/C, safe, and TV. The room was very small, so it's great if all you're planning to do is sleep there.

The hotel is old but has spruced itself up a bit and now has internet access from the small lounge and provides large lockers to stow your luggage after check out but before going to the airport. That alone was great since my flight left at night and it gave me an extra afternoon to sightsee. There was a nice mix of guests at the hotel, from families to older travelers, students, businessmen and even a few construction workers who were working next door. HHS was voted the best budget hotel in NYC.
