Perfectly adequate but not a 4 star hotel

I stayed at Le Meridien for a week with a friend. We were happy with the room (comfortable, large, clean) and the staff were very helpful. The bathroom was clean, lots of hot water. Housekeeping staff did a great job of cleaning up after us. There was a mini-bar in the room which we used to refrigerate the water, juice and foods we bought at the nearby Monoprix store (Rue du Depart). Don't drink at the hotel bar (15 E for a cocktail !). There's free safe deposit boxes at the front desk and free in-room safes. No reason to eat in the overpriced hotel restaurant, there's lots of great cafes in the area; avoid the restaurants next to the hotel, they're tourist traps. We especially liked "The Blue Buoi" cafe on the Blvd de Vaugirard (on the opposite side of the Montparnasse train station). The Metro station is across the street in the Gare Montparnasse and it connects three Metro lines which will take you just about anywhere you want to go. The Air France airport shuttle (22 E round trip) stops directly across the street from Le Meridien. Trust me, it's the fastest and most convenient way to get from CDG to the hotel after a long flight. Le Meridien was a great hotel for us because of its location to the Metro and because it wasn't in a heavy "tourist" area. The hotel was full of Japanese and North American tour groups but since we didn't eat there, it wasn't a problem. This hotel would be good for families (get connecting rooms) and anyone who isn't expecting a luxury hotel. I've stayed at other Starwood Hotels (Westin and Sheratin) and Le Meridien is only a 2 star hotel (not a 4 star as advertised).

Good hotel, Excellent service, Okay location (for tourists)

My wife and I were spending a week in Paris. We had a superb stay at this hotel. The rooms were nice ? good size and clean, a little worn ? but clean and tidy. The room service was excellent. Most of the staff was very helpful, all the staff spoke English and if they could not say something / understand something they made every effort to help. The only problem was location. The hotel is not a walking distance from any of the popular tourist destinations; you can barely see any of major attractions from any of the rooms ? even the ones that are high up. However the area itself was not bad, a few blocks away there was a circle with movie theaters and restaurants/shops that were open 24 hrs a day. To get to just about anywhere - you could walk to a metro in 3-5 mins, bus stops were 3-5 mins walk and a cab ride to most of the major tourist attractions was 9-12 euros (12/07). We never felt unsafe in the vicinity of the hotel at any time day/night. All things considered, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great Hotel --would stay again

Hotel was great. Rooms were large and clean. Room service was quick. Concierge service was very good. Arranged trip to Normandy for my husband and myself. Also, we had a very early flight out of Paris and the concierge arranged for a cab to be waiting for us at 5:00 a.m. Staff spoke English so language was not a problem. The only disappointment would be the distance from local Paris sites. I thought that we would be able to walk to Notre Dame and Eiffel Tower. No way. However, we quickly found the train station across from the hotel. We figured out how to get where we wanted to be via the metro. Also, the open air tourist bus was a great way to get all around Paris. I felt the area we were in was probably geared more for the business traveler vs. the vacationer.

Excellent overall

I had occasion to stay late July-Early August of 2007 and found the hotel very good. Service, room quality, meals, and all staff were exceptionally cooperative and helpful. The overall experience was great with the one drawback I found being its location. Everything was a 8 euro cab ride away.....Eiffel, Louvre, etc....all took some getting to and we felt as if we were staying a bit out of the loop. I do recommend the property for its excellent quality and exceptional staff- just be prepared to cab or metro around and plan 30 minutes to be where you need to go.

Great location. Close to the Eiffel Tower. A metro stop around the corner. Many restaurants within walking distance. Very helpful staff. Answered all my question in English. Would stay here again.
