I Would Stay Again

I stayed at the Relais Bosquet with my daughter in January 2008. It is a beautiful hotel in a quiet, charming neighborhood. While the room was small by American standards, it was no smaller than places I have stayed in London and the bathroom was so beautiful and well-appointed (much nicer than the London hotels' bathrooms, which were about 2 feet square) that it made up for the smallish room, in my opinion.

We never had their breakfast buffet, which offered a wide selection and was beautifully served, because it was €20 each. Like many other guests, we kept yogurt and fruit in the room's refrigerator, made tea with the supplied kettle and complimentary teas, and frequented the neighborhood boulangeries and cafes.

The staff was wonderful: respectfully friendly and very helpful.

There are two free internet computers in the lobby, where you can also read a variety of international newspapers and magazines. A feature I really appreciated was the free wifi in the room! (I came to Paris from Berlin, where I had had to pay €15 a day for internet access in my hotel room.) I wasn't able to print my boarding pass in the hotel, but there was an internet cafe just the other side of the Rue de Bosquet, also on rue Champs de Mars, where I could.

We had a car when we arrived and I was able to use a hotel-arranged space in the underground parking lot by the l'Ecole Militaire metro station at a reduced rate (€20 a day, rather than €25 or more.)

The location was perfect for us, since my daughter was enrolling at the American University in Paris, located just blocks away. The metro stop for l'Ecole Militaire is very close. The Eiffel Tower is a short walk away, as is the Seine. We walked to Notre Dame in 35 minutes.

I think the Relais Bosquet was the perfect pied a terre from which to become acquainted with Paris and I plan to stay there again on future visits, of which I am sure there will be many because I don't think my daughter will ever want to leave Paris.

This hotel was a small charming boutique hotel located in a upper middle neighborhood, rue Cler. Our room was charming facing a courtyard on the second level. While the room was small is clean and neat containing a queen size bed with adequate space to store our clothes and belongings. The room supplied us with a tray of complimentary tea or coffee with condiments. The hotel was one block away from the Rue Cler, which was a charming street of vendors, cheese shops, pastry shops, fresh flowers, fruits and vegetables. The street is blocked off to traffic for three blocks and was a favorite spot fot the locals who shopped there every day. A favorite restaurant located on this street was the Cafe Du Marche, which was a favorite hangout for a romantic couples such as ourselves. In addition, this hotel is 20 minutes away by foot from the Eiffel Tower and within walking distance from major destinantions such as the Rudin Museum, Musee d'Orsay, the River Seine, Ecole Militaire, and the Metro (one block away from the hotel).

I've stayed in nearly a dozen hotels in Paris, and this is my only repeat. And right now I think it's my favorite. Paris can be an pricey place to get a room. And often, a couple-hundred euros will get you a very small room indeed.

On my early visits to the City of Lights, I preferred staying in the very popular, very crowded, and very busy Latin Quarter. Today I find I feel much more "at home" in this charming area, just down the street from Rue Cler, and a 10-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower.

Relais Bosquet offers very comfortable, pleasantly attractive rooms with very modern, luxurious bathrooms. Front rooms have windows opening onto Champs de Mars and a view of the top of the Eiffel Tower. From my bed, I can watch the twinkly lights.

Breakfast is offered for a price, but the morning smells of the boulangerie right next door wake me and beckon. A block away is the famous Rue Cler market street with an assortment of cafes, shops, and interesting things to see and do.

Parisians live in this neighborhood. They shop in the little specialty shops, they eat in the brasseries, and they stop for a drink at the cafes. While there is no paucity of tourists in the area, it's completely unlike the Latin Quarter and area around St. Germaine. It's not busy and noisy and bustling, like the neighborhood near the Louvre, the Opera House, and the big department stores. I love the feeling of "coming home" at the end of the day. There is no shortage of excellent restaurants in the neighborhood.

Also, the staff is exceptionally welcoming and helpful. There is also free Internet in the reception area.

The hotel has also added two apartments to choose from in the neighborhood. They look wonderful, and I will try to stay in one of them on my next visit.
