A Diamond in the Rough

I stayed at this hotel with my boyfriend recently and was upset when the shuttle driver from the airport told us that the hotel is located in a dangerous neighborhood. When I checked in the manager assured me that we would be fine (he lives in the neighborhood with his family). We did not have any problems during our stay and felt safe. The hotel is very clean (even the stairwells, which is amazing). The hotel is a quick 5 minute (approximately $6) cab ride to the convention center / gaslamp district. You cannot walk downtown so you do need to drive or take a cab. Overall, a great value.

I've stayed here a few times and I always get a good value for the money. It's not a first-class hotel, but then again, the rate simply can't be beat. It's right on the number 11 bus line so getting there is easy, even if you don't have a car. A huge plus if you're on a budget. The neighborhood is mostly Hispanic, safe and quiet. Super little greasy spoon nearby has the biggest Mexican dinner for under $* I've ever had. Convenience store only a block away. Great place for the budget minded. Clerk at front desk speaks and understands English. Very pleasant.
Not a good choice

This is not a good place to stay. The room was not terribly clean and covered in cigarette burns and the area where the motel is located is very questionable. I expected a clean, safe location within walking distance of downtown San Diego and got none of those things.

Another hotel with some nice photos, but the reality is much different. $* for a run down motel type quality in a run down part of town.
