Nice Stay!

I was initially worried about staying at the Sandman Hotel Downtown Vancouver, because of prior, generally negative reviews. But I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the hotel. The decor is appropriate for the hotel style, the room we stayed in is very clean and all appliances are new and they work! The room is really small, though, i.e., you had to turn sideways to go from the bedroom area to the hallway leading to the bathroom, because the desk table was partly blocking that space. My husband had to muffle the air conditioner because it was making loud vibration noises. Hotel staff are wonderful, nice people and always accommodating. The Big Bus, which is one of the tour buses, stops at the Sandman, and the hotel location is the best!
For the amount of money you pay, staying at the Sandman is one of the best values in town! Just make sure you don't spend most of your time in the hotel room.
Oh - and the elevators! I also read somewhere that the elevators were slow - like a 20 minute wait. Not during our stay! In fact, the elevators worked quickly -as long as you got the handle on using your room key to operate those elevators.
I thought the restaurant - Moxie's Grill - is good, but it's over rated. The food is "just ok." Others like it, but with what my husband and I ordered, it wasn't as good as we hoped it would be.
My husband and I think we'd stay at the Sandman again, since Vancouver is just one of the best places to vacation anyway!

The hotel had great amenities. Indoor heated pool, hot tub, a small but functional exercise room that had cardio equipment and a decent array of free weights and nautilus machines. The dining options were great, had a decent bar/niteclub, as well as two other dining places. The only drawback was my room was small and smelled of smoke.
