Description: We have just returned from a week at this timeshare resort, which is actually a subgroup of timeshare townhouses that is part of the larger Rumbling Bald Resort. Fox Run Townhouses is managed by the timeshare giant VRI. There is also a resort operated by Wyndham Resort, as well as year-round homes (condos & townhouses) that are privately owned. We traded into this resort using RCI.
This is a mega resort in that there are two golf courses, a restaurant, spa, swimming pool, tennis courts, marina and private beach area. I'm sure that as others have already written, there are ala carte prices attached to most if not all activities you may choose to do while staying here. As a timeshare owner elsewhere, this is to be expected especially when the "resort" has many owners who have interval (weekly) interests vs. year-round living interests.
We did rent a 17' pontoon boat for half a day and it came to $175 total, including a $5/hour gas surcharge. We felt that this was very fair, especially given how much it would have been for the three of us to take the 90 minute tour of the lake via the Lake Lure Tours company at the other end of the lake.
As for the timeshare unit itself, it was a tri-level townhouse that was well laid out and with a lot of space inside. As you entered, you were on the half level where there was the second bedroom with two double beds and a full bath (shower over tub). On the lower level was the master bedroom with a huge bathroom that included a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower. Off the backside of the bedroom was a balcony facing the woods complete with two chairs for that early morning cup of coffee? The laundry unit ("skinny mini" washer with dryer) was also on this lower level.
On the upper level was the main living space with a full living room, dining room, kitchen and fireplace (Duraflame logs only). There was also another full balcony with a dinette table and four chairs out there too. Very nicely done. They provided TV's in the living room as well as each of the two bedrooms. Cable TV was provided with a decent selection of stations.
The kitchen appliances were good and fully operational. We thought the unit was generally well maintained and furnished. We did have a very severe thunderstorm our last night in the unit, during which we found we had a leaky ceiling. That was reported upon check-out so hopefully it will be taken care of before they incur serious damage.
Parking was immediately in front of each unit, something I’ve come to expect and often disappointed by when not provided. The convenience when having to unload the car or to bring in groceries is very helpful, especially if you have to climb stairs to or inside of the unit.
I personally had hoped to see more wildlife on the property but was happy to see a couple of deer one morning as we were heading out for the day. I suppose it was too much to ask to see black bears. HA!
We have stayed in some 30+ timeshare units throughout the USA and abroad. This was far from the worst, but not the best either. All in all, i would give them 8 out of 10 and would stay here again.
