Most awful hotel experience ever

I travel quite a bit and this was by far the worst hotel I've ever been at - and that includes some pretty dingy ones in Africa! The 1 Queen Bed room was smaller than any dorm room I've ever seen, and I work at colleges. That's the smallest room I've ever stayed in for the price they charge. The bed was like sleeping on a door and the room, in late Oct. was freezing! No heat on at all.
On top of all that, we were disturbed 3 times in one morning for room service cleaning - when we had the Do Not Disturb sign on the door! They tried to walk in on us even when we yelled 'No thank you!' I couldn't believe it.
There was also construction going on next door to us and when we asked that they not work on the wall that was shared with our room just from 9 to noon so we could sleep in, they replied, 'Well, we'll tell the workers but they'll do what they want to.' So during my three nights there I was woken up at 7AM each morning to sound of hammering on the wall. I spoke with the staff there multiple times about it and absolutely nothing was done.
We ended up spending less time in that hotel that we normally would just because it was so uncomfortable! The shower curtain broke and dropped in the middle of a shower.
Absolutely horrendous. You couldn't pay me to stay a night there again.

This is a beautiful old hotel in the middel of Salem, within walking distance of everything. Room was average size but had lots of charm. We did speak to a guest in a single room who said hert room was small. Ours was fine. I would stay again, definitely, can't beat the location.

The historic Hawthorne Hotel in Salem is in the heart of the city, within easy walking distance of all the attractions. The staff, decor and rooms were all first rate, as were its restaurants, but the beds were a little hard. I think a hotpot in the rooms so you could have a cup of tea would be a nice addition. They reserved our room for the wrong night, but fixed it when we checked in and upgraded us.

This was our first time in Salem. My boyfriend and I decided to stay at this Historic Hotel. When we got there, we took one look at our room, and I thought I was in a closet. The room was located towards the back of the hotel and in the corner. The room was always cold, despite the heat being on.The room service was the only positive thing here. Hotel staff has no idea about surrounding restaurants. We do plan on visiting Salem again, which we already have. But we will never stay at the Hawthorne Hotel again.
