Summer Bay Resort is only 6 miles away from Walt Disney World's main gate. If your heart is set on visiting Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure or SeaWorld, then the drive is only a short distance away.
Best Things About the Resort:
We stayed in a three bedroom detached home with its very own private heated pool and hot tub. THIS was the best thing about our visit with Summer Bay Resort.
We also found it a pleasure associating with Summer Bay's staff. They were always pleasantly cheerful and willing to help you out in anyway they possibly could.
Summer Bay Resort strongly believes in protecting their owners and guests. There was always a guard at the entrance of the resort making sure you were a visitor staying with them. Because of the security guards, we felt like this resort was well guarded and cared for.
Finally, lastly, but not least, we loved their Las Vegas Casino Cruise offer they have every Wednesday nights. For those of you who have never been on a cruise (like us), this is the perfect opportunity to try out your "sea legs". Summer Bay Resort provides free transportation (through a bus company) to and from Port Canaveral. A perfect opportunity for an Adults Night Out.
Resort Experience:
OUR ARRIVAL:
Summer Bay Resort is like a breath of fresh air. Their grounds were immaculately well cared for-- with their beautifully manicured lawns, trimmed hedges, and colorful flowers. We knew we made a wise choice in picking Summer Bay Resort as our home away from home.
CHECK IN:
Since we arrived at the resort at 11am, our unit was not ready, yet. However, they did allow us to take care of all of the paperwork, so we could easily pick up our keys later on.
OUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF THE HOUSE:
It was gorgeous!!! I immediately fell in love with the colorful schemed house. The guys were not so fond of the "pink walls" though.
HOUSE DESCRIPTION:
Once you are inside the house, you'll step into a tiny foyer. Behind the front door on your right, you'll see another door that leads into the third bathroom and bedroom. The small bathroom has a regular tub with a shower head, small sink and commode. There are two twin beds in this room that would be great for the kids.
On the left side of the foyer, you will see the livingroom with its couch, loveseat and entertainment center. Looking straight ahead you will see the elegant dining room and the floor to ceiling windows. Beyond those windows is your very own private heated pool and in some houses, a hot tub. Believe me... We could not wait to try out the pool.
As you step into the living room, you'll notice on your right a long mirror with a beautiful sculpture sitting on a bar. I thought this added a nice touch to the house. You'll then see the kitchen and the casual dining room, which I've enclosed a picture of. A compact washer and dryer is located in the kitchen behind the sliding door. You'll also have entrance into your one car garage from the kitchen. OH!! Lets not forget this house has an automatic garage door opener. How's that for convenience?!!
You have two master bedrooms with their own jacuzzi tubs and stand alone showers on the right and left side of the livingroom. We preferred the master bedroom on the right side because of how the TV is situated, which is right in the front of the bed. In the second master bedroom, the TV is located on the side of the bed. We thought that was kind of odd.
Now to the good part... The Pool.. You'll have your own privately screened patio, chairs, table, and lounge chairs for your pool entertainment and relaxation. A nice long soak in the heated pool/spa is the absolute perfect way to end your day with. Ahhhh...
OUR CONCERNS:
Summer Bay Resort does NOT provide internet acess nor data ports in their units. With today's technology, it would seem like they would have this. Instead-- if you wanted to access the internet, you would have to go to the nearby library. You are only allowed on 30 minutes per day, per user. It is first come, first served. This issue was an inconvenience and we sincerely hope they will (at the very least) add data ports to their units in the near future.
Our second concern was their onsite putt-putt. It was in such depleted shape. The court was literally falling apart. Again, we hope Summer Bay will take it upon themselves and fix it up. I'm sure many more people would take advantage of this free onsite amenity if only it was in decent shape. Unfortunately, we did not have time to participate in any of their onsite amenities except the Las Vegas Casino Cruise, which should not be missed.
CONCLUSION:
In closing, we were VERY happy with our stay at the Summer Bay Resort. Despite the few faults they had, it did not in no way mar our happiness and satisfaction with them. We would not hesitate to stay with Summer Bay Resort, especially if we have the house exchange again. Because of their one in four year exchange rule, we won't get to experience the enjoyment of staying here again until after this designated time expires. Until then....
