We arrived at Summer Bay Sunday morning. The check-in process was really fast. The resort is very pretty, with well-kept lawns and a very friendly staff.
We went to our two-bedroom villa on the third floor. I thought the room was nice and rather spacious. The master bedroom had a king-size bed with a TV. The bathroom was kinda small, with no Jacuzzi tub, but it was clean. The living room had a leather couch and chair, and also a TV, stereo, and DVD player, with two big windows to view the other areas of the resort. The villa had a full kitchen that was somewhat small and a dining room table just to the left of the kitchen. There was a washer/dryer combo just outside the kitchen. The second bedroom and bathroom were big. It was very clean and roomy, with a queen-size bed and TV.
They have their own lake inside the resort where you can rent jet skis, paddleboats, and small motored boats. They have white sand for the kids to play in and several water toys in the lake, like a small and large rock climbing wall and trampoline to jump into the water. My kids LOVED that! The rental is a little expensive for the jet skis. Summer Bay also has a small water park inside for the kids. My children really liked that. They have a mini golf course inside, too. Overall, our stay at Summer Bay was nice, and I would like to visit again someday.

The resort was beautiful - having never stayed in a resort before, it was a pleasant change from being in a hotel. Our suite was equipped with everything you would need away from home, and I mean everything. It was a cozy environment that overlooked tennis courts. I remember being fascinated with the plasma television, although it seemed there was a problem with one of the channels that maintenance was never able to solve. (Actually, I think it was outside the expertise of the worker sent to attend to the problem.) But even that couldn't dampen the overall vibe of the place. The door leading to the veranda on the second floor didn't have blinds, but the place lacked peeping toms (as far as I could tell). On the whole, though, good accommodations. I'll be back.

Service, upkeep, activities, and accommodations
We visited this resort last year at about this time and were pleasantly surprised with the site. So, we exchanged our Cozumel Weeks resort week for another this year to confirm our impressions. Well, we were so impressed again that we purchased one of the Vacation Homes Points timeshare for ourselves. We now have two timeshares and love it. Summer Bay is very well maintained and the personnel are friendly, cooperative, and helpful. The grounds are immaculate and the accommodations are excellent. The pools, bar, and activities are enjoyable for the whole family, and we can't wait to go back.

The resort is family-friendly (mini golf--fee; activity center; several pools and the lake--fee; yet the main pool had quite a party atmosphere with music, kareoke, and a bar (drinks in cups and bottles were allowed in the pool, along with families with babies and children). This is not necessarily the resort for families. I would consider a different resort for my family in the future.

Summer Bay Resort - Highly Recommended
This is a continuation of my Summer Bay resort journal. Please read both for a complete picture of Summer Bay.
We had a great time at Summer Bay! The resort was easy to find, about 30 minutes from Orlando International Airport. The check-in process was quick and easy.
We had a two-bedroom condo. The condo was nicely furnished with leather furniture. The living area had a sofa, two sitting chairs, a coffee table, two end tables, a dinette with four chairs, a desk, and a shelf unit with a large color TV and a phone.
The resort doesn't have Internet access for guests, but the public library next door has it available. The front desk will help you with online airline check-in and print your boarding passes.
There is a washer and dryer in the condo. They also provided a laundry mat-size box of Surf. The washer is small, about half the size of a large-size washer. It worked fine for us, so we were able to do all our laundry midweek.
The clubhouse is mostly for the front desk, but they do also have a large room where we played bingo. It cost $2 per bingo card, but we won three free drinks at the bar, so we had fun! There are also a few sitting areas and a display of brochures for area attractions.
There are three pools at Summer Bay. There are two nice-sized pools near clusters of buildings. These two pools had a nice feature: instead of stairs, they had a sloped entry at one end. However, you did have to go to the activity center to get pool towels. The main pool is located at the clubhouse and is much larger than the other two.
Poolside Bar and Pool Area
There is a nice bar area next to the main pool. They have an assortment of their own fun drinks and also make all the standard ones. They have a DJ playing and also karaoke.
The one of the three-bedroom villas is being used as the activity center. Each day they plan a different activity. My boys participated in the teen mini-golf tournament. It was a free activity, and the winners received drink coupons for the poolside bar, non-alcoholic, of course! They also had things like crafts and make-your-own sundaes. There was a pool table and room set up for movies. The activity center also supplied the sports equipment for tennis, volleyball, and shuffleboard. They also supplied pool towels, which you signed out.

Summer Bay resort is a large resort with a variety of accommodations on the property.
Summer Bay has three pools, a clubhouse, tennis courts, shuffleboard, a nice beach on the lake, a marina with all types of water craft, a water activity area and an activity center. They also have their own mini-golf course.
The grounds are nicely landscaped and well maintained.
The kitchen had all the necessary cooking and dining utensils. The appliances included a full-size stove, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, and a stacked washer/dryer. The resort provides plenty of bath towels, and you can exchange them for fresh ones for a fee. We used ours more than once, and then washed them midweek.
The master bedroom had a queen-size bed, one nightstand, a dresser, and a large closet with lots of hangers! We had plenty of room for all our clothes. The second bedroom loft had two full-size beds, a dresser, a nightstand, and a closet.
The master bedroom also included a large Jacuzzi, stall shower, sink with lots of counter space, and separate toilet for privacy. The second bathroom had a tub with a shower, toilet, and sink.
The condos were air-conditioned and also had a ceiling fans.
The first-floor condos included a patio with table and four chairs, and the upper floors had balconies.
Summer Bay is located on the W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, a.k.a. US 192. It is about 8 miles from the main gate to Disney. It is 30 minutes from the airport. There are all types of restaurants on US 192, including Denny's (right next door), Olive Garden, Sizzler, IHOP, Ponderosa, and Golden Corral. The resort is next door to a Publix for quick and easy groceries or if you forgot anything.
There is a shuttle bus service from the resort to Disney at no charge, but it only runs twice in the morning and once at night. There is also a bus service to some of the other parks, like SeaWorld and Universal. I think there was a charge for this service. We had a rental car and drove each time. The parking at Disney is $8 and good all day at any of the four theme parks, so you can park hop.

I found the staff and management to be very uncaring, with terrible customer service.
Other than the issue with service and the bug infestation, the pool was very nice and the remainder of the grounds were nice. The location was close to Disney World and the other area attractions.

The two-bedroom we stayed in was very comfortable. Either bedroom would do just fine, but the master had a lovely Jacuzzi tub. The balcony was the perfect seating area for beautiful sunsets and dining (if the weather had been a little warmer). I wouldn't hesitate to return here.
