Roach and Bug Infested Unit

We have stayed at Summer Bay before back in 2004 and I had a great time. I thought it was truly a 5 star resort. Wow, things have changed!

Our unit (which was 501) was infested by the biggest roaches I've seen. What in the heck are those things called down there? I killed two of them, then called maintenance. I don't really know what they did because it didn't solve the roach problem.

On our patio, a wasp had made a nice nest. Obviously Summer Bay does not spray for wasps so be careful. It gets even better.

A bat was camped out on the patio the first two nights we were there. Ok, I didn’t really mind the bat. He was a cutey and they eat tons of insects. I was actually sad to see him go.

More? While you're sleeping at night, bunches of what looked to be Japanese Beetles would somehow get into the foyer that joins the room units. These little fellas would then proceed to lay there and die. To Summer Bays credit, they did sweep them up everyday while we were gone to the parks.

Finally, there was something croaking in our bed room. Whatever it was would croak between the hours of 3 - 5 am. No, I'm not making any of this up. Unit 501, bottom floor on the end..

I don't know about the rest of Summer Bay but my unit was laughable. These were supposes to be the newest units so I was shocked. They are smaller in size when compared to where we stayed 4 years ago (300). Also, if you are put into the 500s, the pool isn't finished yet so you have a nice long walk to reach any of the others.

The good things

- The kids pool and the main pool are nice. I just had to drive over there because my little one is too small to make that walk. The main pool stays open 24 hours.

- The grounds look nice

- Great transportation.

Wish we could live there!!!

My family and I have stayed here twice and absolutely love it!!! It's hard after staying here in their villas and then going somewhere else. Can't beat the pools for kids and grownups!!!

The roaches are the only free thing.

Beautiful place and nice location. Internet access costs $9.95 for A DAY, come on this is 2007 you can get FREE internet anywhere from McDonalds to hole-in-the-wall hotel/motels. My wife and daughter packed our bags and went spend our last two nights in a friend's room at another resort due to the huge cockroaches in our room at SummerBay. There response to complants were basically that there was nothing they could do, it's just "the season". I am from south louisiana and have the same climate as they do and my home is roach free. This was disgusting. I have read atleast 5 other reviews about roaches at this place. If you go, BRING SOME RAID!!!

Anxious to return!

We surprised our four sons with a trip to Disney before going back to school. We booked a condo at Summer Bay Resorts and we were very, very impressed. The condo was huge and clean. The washer and dryer in the condo was a convience as we came home with minimal laundry. We loaded the refrigerator for breakfast and munchies and the three televisions allowed for easy relaxation after a full day at Disney. Disney is only a 10 minute drive away and there are loads of good restaurants along the way. We had a six day pass for Disney which did not leave much time to enjoy the outdoor activities at Summer Bay but we did use the pool a few evenings.

Wonderful Resort
