Great Stay at the Hampton

  • March 21, 2007
  • Rated 4 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
One negative to our stay was the hotel catered to groups on the weekends. There was a huge influx of grade schoolers to high schoolers on the two weekends we visited. The kids took over the hotel, running and screaming in the hallways and overtaking the public areas. The hotel caters to patients of the Mayo clinic, the chaos on the weekends does not make for a pleasant experience if you are sick or recovering from illness while a patient at the clinic. All in all a lovely hotel that provides great service to the Mayo client.

Hampton Inn

This hotel is a decent Hampton Inn to stay at. The rate is right around $80-100 a night and that is for a room with a small refrigerator. The rooms are rather small, however, so don’t expect any suites or kitchenettes etc. The room decor is nice enough and it certainly seemed clean (which I am a stickler about.) The bathroom was small, but certainly good enough. They do provide the usual soap and shampoo (in, of course, the smallest bottles in the world!). The shower did have low water pressure, so if that’s a concern of yours, it’s important to note this. The bathroom does have a heater so that if you are taking a shower or bath you will be sure to stay warm. There is of course a TV and a very good selection of cable, I have to say.

The hotel offers a really good breakfast that includes cereal, fruit, oatmeal, eggs, toast, bagels, juices, yogurt, and, of course, coffee and tea. They also have a little brown baggie in case you don’t have time for breakfast you can grab one on your way out. I love this idea and think other hotels should offer it as well. It’s great in case you are waking up late. They also offer soup at night. It’s not that big of a deal, but if you need a little something to warm you up, it’s definitely nice to have that as an option. Note that there are elevators in this hotel, and the staff is EXTREMELY courteous.

There are several restaurants in the area including Quiznos Subs, Panera Bread, Chinese and Mexican restaurants, and Michael’s (see other restaurant review of mine) that do deliver. I think about 20 in all.

We went there because we had to go to the Mayo Clinic (unfortunately). We were there a week. They have a shuttle van that will take you to and from the Mayo Clinic that runs every half hour. It’s wonderful and extremely punctual. You definitely have no worries that you will get there and back on time. However, we did decide to move to a different hotel so that we could walk to the clinic after we knew that we were going to have to be there over a week

I would definitely recommend this hotel. It’s a good deal for the money, clean, and definitely worth the money. The comforts that they have are also nice if you are going to be staying there for Mayo Clinic reasons.
