A Gem in Dupont Circle

I have just returned from the Carlyle Suites Hotel for the famed Cherry Blossom festival. I have stayed at the hotel before and I knew it was always a good find, but now it is even better. The Carlyle Hotel has a stellar location on New Hampshire Ave in Dupont Circle. It is quite and to my surprise, fixed up quite a bit! They clearly made updates to the lobby by adding new marble floors, curtains, furniture and new wall paper. The front desk checked me in and they couldn't have been nicer! It's rare to find good service these days. They gave me a really large sized room but the bonus for me was that they they had just replaced all the rooms with all new sheets and duvets! A huge improvement from what they had!

I always loved the kitchenette with the stove, fridge, glasses, plates, silverware, etc. Really handy when you have to stay a week like I did. They used to have a restaurant called Lilly's, and to tell you the truth, it was never my favorite, but they replaced the chef and I was wowed! I had the shrimp and linguine, it was amazing!!! I highly recommend this hotel to you and your friends, Its affordable and a nice change from the big boring hotels.

not up to standards

We were moved to this hotel due to our prior reservation not being honored by the Savoy Inn. Customer service was poor at best and were difficult to understand. Hotel had very few ammenities with a very small lobby and bar. We were told the hotel was new but the building had to be at least 100 years old. Parking was difficult to access and probably only had 10 parking spots for the building.

Don't check into Carlyle!

The receptionist during check-in was rude, arrogant, disrepectful and a bit self-absorbed. He was very rude during the entire check-in and not accomodating at all to my needs at the time. The service was awful. However, there was one desk clerk that was very polite and helpful. Unfortunately he worked the late shift at the hotel.

Overpriced for service level

For the price, I expected better service (I needed scissors to open a box; was told they didn't have any). Rooms are stylish. First floor has no privacy to street/alley (windows aren't frosted). Very limited parking.

The Caryle Suites

A nice, clean, Art Deco style hotel in an older upper class residential area, now occupied mainly by embassies. Within 2 blocks are many quaint restaurants and shops. Our room had a kitchenette, with microwave & refrigerator, 2 double beds and a sitting area with a pull-out sofa.
