We had a whole group there in May 2009 and everyone had a great time at the hotel. The staff couldn't have been nicer and bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable. They went above and beyond shuttling people where they needed to be and even helped with a bunch of boarding passes, which took them a long time!!! The hotel was large, the rooms were spacious and clean and the restaurant attached to the hotel had delicious breakfasts. Their recommendations were spot on too. Thank you all so much!!!!

Service during a terrible blizzard was beyond compare!

I came out to Rapid City to bury my father at the Black Hills National Cemetery. The ceremony was unfortunately delayed due to an incredible blizzard that started the night before. We were all stranded in the hotel, as the roads could not be plowed fast enough. Even the interstate was closed. The Gateway staff were great, offering us movies and rides to and from the nearby Walmart. The Perkins restaurant in the hotel continued to offer good food and service. My experience could have been miserable, but instead I was grateful to have a safe, warm place to stay. The free internet service was invaluable, as I was able to get current road condition info and knew that it would be safe to travel up to Sturgis the following morning. I received assistance from the staff to shovel out my car, and made it to the cemetery entrance right on time. You can imagine how important it was for me to take care of my father at this crucial time, and I could not have done so without the great people at the Gateway! Thank you all so much!!!

We travel 4 weeks a year. We often use online travel website to book our vacations. We get some great deals that way. Grand Gateway acted like we were not welcome just because we used online travel website and got a good deal. They even said "You used online travel website. We can't give you an upgrade since you paid so little for the room." We were about the only guest in the hotel - you would have thought they would be very appreciative of every travel dollar. We paid for a superior room and got a standard room. We ask for a better room and were shown another room but it only had 3 dresser drawers. We were there for 9 nights - 3 dresser drawers wouldn't work. The bed seemed to be "short sheeted" with low quality sheets, the comforter slid off the bed every night and the pillows were hard, fat and short. The hotel does not have a free breakfast but has a Perkins attached. We tried to eat there - the food is fine but the cigarette smoke was so thick we couldn't eat there every day plus it's expensive. Go somewhere else if you are a non-smoker. We could have used hotel drink vouchers at the attached Cheers but it also had heavy smoke. The cleaning staff came in every day except Christmas. They left clean towels on the floor outside the door on Christmas. My advice: There are plenty of places to stay in Rapid City - nice places at a much cheaper rate and they include hot, full breakfasts. Use them. As for restaurants: Red Lobster, Outback and Fuddruckers are especially good. Must see places: #1: Badlands National Park, #2: Mount Rushmore, #3: Crazy Horse, #4: Spearfish and Deadwood, #5: 1880 Train in Hill City.

Very nice hotel!

We were very pleased with the Grand Gateway. The accomodations were attractive and comfortable. The bed was great! Best of all, the hotel is located very well. We stayed 5 nights and toured the major sites of the entire area (Mt. Rushmore, Black Hills, Crazy Horse Monument, caves and the spectacular BadLands) plus we ventured into Wyoming to see Devils's Tower. Personnel at the hotel were helpful and cordial. There is a good breakfast restaurant attached as well.

nice stay.

I had read some of the negative comments regarding this hotel and was a little leary of the hotel. We arrived very early on Friday and were immediately checked in. Our room was very nice and had a pretty decor. There was one hair in the bathroom, but did not call management as everything else was spic and span. The only negatvie thing I would say is that there were lots of kids that were hogging the hot tub. I feel that there should be a time where just adults access the pool area. We did not get to enjoy the tub our entire stay. Otherwise, the staff was very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again.
