The Dana on Mission Bay, a restful and lovely week.

From arrival to exit, the facility and its location were a delight to enjoy. Located on a marina and walking distance to a snack and sundries store, it was a convenient as well as a centrally located fun place to be. There are two outdoor pools, one located overlooking the marina and the other in a secluded feeling enclave with a jacuzzi and excercise room nearby. There were joggers around the perimiter of the extensive parklike property giving one the opportunity to enjoy lots of outdoor activities in the beautiful San Diego climate. This inn is within walking distance to Sea World and within approximately 5 miles from the Sports Arena and the airport. Mission Beach is very close and it's just a relatively short drive to Pacific Beach and La Jolla. The rooms are well appointed with granite and marble in the bathrooms and comfortable beds. The maid service was prompt and done consistently well, there are small electric carts for rides to the restaurants or other areas if needed, The staff was very friendly and helpful which we especially appreciated as we need help getting around for any long distances. Some rooms have waterfront vistas and some see one of the pool areas. The service in the one restaurant we visited was excellent. There is very good security so if you need special help getting around, or are there by yourself, just ask and you will be cheerfully accomodated. The only problem is that they charge $12 a day to park your car on campus which was not disclosed upon check-in, I wondered why I saw so many cars parked on the frontage road in the evenings. All in all, we loved it there for the aforementioned reasons and would go back again if given the opportunity.

Adequate, not great.

The hotel had some REAL issues. First, the shower took about 5 minutes (literally!) to heat up in order for us to have a hot shower. The bathroom did NOT have a fan, and this made it very difficult to circulate air in the bath. It did have a window, but too small. There was no place to hang our wet bathing suits as the clothing line was broken. The air conditioning systems were placed in the corner of the room, which made them blow air out directly into the beds, and not into the upper air of the room. This also made the circulation of air non-existent. The AC was extremely noisy, and even with this noise, we could still hear outside activity in our room. As for the TV, it was the latest type of HI-Def monitor, but did not come with Internet access or a keyboard to use free internet. This was ridiculous and a waste of the upgraded system in the room. Positive sides were the in-room fridge, hair dryer, coffee maker, and bath robes. The rooms were small, the linens standard, and for such a wonderful location, I would have expected better. We had pool view rooms. Another issue was the lack of lighting just outside the hotel. It was very difficult to find the hotel from the street, and there was no sidewalk to get to the marina across the street. As for the general usage of the hotel, there were weddings that took up the entire facilities, such as the Firefly lounge so that we could not dine therel as was advertised. Overall, I was NOT impressed with this place. Since we got to stay here at 40% discount, it was worth it, but not worth staying again.

Wouldn't Stay Here

This hotel was nothing but a mess. The front desk lost our credit card information, didn't have a crib in the hotel (which we booked when making the reservation and called 3 hours prior to make sure there would be one because we were arriving late and our son was sleeping). When the crib finally did arrive the person who dropped it off didn't offer to put it together and when I asked him, he said that it wasn't his job. They brought no sheets for the crib and the crib swayed back and forth. The shower had hair in it that wasn't ours and the room was so small that my husband and I had to take turns getting ready in the morning. Our view was suppose to be of the Marina and we on the remodeled rooms. When looking out the window, you got a great view of the parking lot and then got a view of the Marina. This hotel reminded me of a Hotel 8. I travel a lot and have never written a review. I just felt that I needed to share my experience so hopefully someone else's will be more delightful. Granted we went as a family to Sea World and didn't stay much in the hotel room but it was a room that we would have rather not stay in. For what they are asking per room..it is not worth it!!!

O.K. but not as nice as expected

My husband and I traveled to San Diego for our anniversary. The pictures of the hotel appeared nice, but was surprised to find that the hotel was not as nice as expected. The grouds were kept well and the gardens were nice, but the rooms were small and had an interesting smell. The hotel is centrally located to many attractions, which was great, but they need to update this place a bit. For the price payed I was expecting something much nicer. Also we requested a room with a king size bed and since they didn't have it, we were given a room with two separate full-size bed, so it was very uncomfortable to sleep with such limited space. The rooms look more like something you would find in a Motel6.

Dont' eat at the Firefly.

We had an oceanview room that was very nice. It was great to be so close to the water. Do not go to the Firefly Restaurant that is there. We sat there for 45 minutes after placing our order & we could overhear the cook staff arguing. We decided to leave. There is a great little bait shop/ and market a couple yards away where we decided to grab some sandwiches instead. Check out the fish restaurant across the highway by the sportfishing dock. That was great! and reasonable, too. I would go back to The Dana but avoid the restaurant.
