Wouldn't Stay There Again

I stayed at the Palmer House Hilton in September of 2006. I came to the city with a friend who requested that we stay somewhere pretty nice. I had been inside the beautiful lobby on a prior trip, but I guess the lobby is the nicest part of the hotel. The rooms were unimpressive to say the least. I expected more; the only good thing about this hotel is the location. The rooms do not resemble the picture on here. I've stayed in nicer rooms at hotels half the price. I guess you're paying for the lobby.

I was totally shocked by the size of the room. It was miniscule! You had to close the closet door to get by the bed. The bed filled the entire room and the bathroom was small as well. The t.v. was hung on the wall, but not direcltly in fromt of the bed(the closet was right in front of the bed. There was a sink but no vanity or counter space, therefore you had nowhere to put anything down for even a minute. The room had recently been renovated with contemporary funkie furnishings. I will say the bed was really comfortable.

We were so suprised at the wonderful room and all the extras that came with our stay..
We all agreed when we do our next friends get-away in 2008 we are going to stay here.
It is close to many sights, on foot, cabs,or public transportation.
The staff was so helpful and had such wonderful smiles.
Looking forward to our next stay, can not be soon enough. Hope you enjoy as much as we did. Have fun and include a stay at the Palmer House.

Checking in at the HHonors desk was very quick. HHonors staff was polite, respectful, and very friendly. Upon opening the door to our room it was easy to see we were not in one of the newly remodeled rooms. It was also clear to see that our room was not going to meet the needs of our family of 5. The room was one of the smallest hotels rooms I have ever seen. It did not look like any of the pictures on the Hilton website. We had two very small double beds and no room for the crib we requested. A call down to the front desk was met with a rude response by the young man at the other end. He informed me that there were only four rooms left in the whole hotel and that we could not be moved but they would not charge us a penalty if we wanted to move to a new hotel. Before calling other hotels I returned to the HHonors check-in desk and the young lady very easily and quickly found us a MUCH larger room (in fact, twice as big). It was not on one of the remodeled floors either but it was much much nicer than the first room. Once we were in the new room we had a great time at the Palmer House. A beautiful old hotel in a great location. The only other disappointment during our 3 night stay was that the hotel pool was closed down the last night of our stay at 8 p.m. so it could be drained and cleaned???? Although the pool is old and small the children enjoyed swimming after a long day of sight seeing. We would definately stay at the Palmer House again.
first impressions are deceiving

The first impression of the hotel when you look up at the ceiling is amazing but nothing but down from there on. I had requested atwo twin beds when booked as I was traveling with my teenage daughter. A king was provided and it was explained that a assigned room could not be changed? Later we arrived at our room to find our door was opened with the latch set so that the door remained open with no evidence of housekeeping around despite a half cleaned room. After ten minutes it was clear they were not returning and despite a call to management regarding my concern about the hotel security(with no apology or personal visit), the room was never cleaned nor were supplies ever replenished. Despite claims of free internet access, the signal was so weak we never could log on. Do not recommend if you need to do business or want to feel secure!
