Really Great Experience

  • March 11, 2009

We stayed at the Palmer House for our anniversary and stayed on the executive floors. Our room was beautiful and comfortable, and we enjoyed the evening hors d'oeuvres and morning coffee bar/continental breakfast were great. For the extra money, the experience is worth it. I was really amazed at how clean this hotel is. We walked everywhere and the location of the hotel was close to everything. I don't usually bother writing reviews but decided on my flight home to get online and recommend this hotel, particularly if you are going to Chicago for fun. There is wi-fi on the corner bakery next to the hotel, if you don't want to pay the hotel fee for internet access.

this hotel is amazing. the architecture was incredible. the people from the doorman (who was standing in below zero weather) to the concierge were so nice and accomodating. the location of the hotel was perfect for shows, shopping, culture and resturants. most all of our needs were within walking distance or a short cab ride. peoole in the hotel knew the answers to our questions and were very knowledgeable abot the area and the city. i would go back in a heartbeat ( hopefully they won't be having record breaking freezing temperattures again). there is even a starbucks in the lobby.

Not the Palmer House I Remember

This is a Hilton? Who knew? The best part about the Palmer House is the location, the beautiful (but noisy) lobby and the funky decor in the guest rooms. Restaurant service and bell service were good. Service at check in, lobby, and concierge was indifferent at best. The bathrooms were tiny, with minimal amenities and no space to put toiletries. TV was dated and remote didn't work part of the time. No coffee pot in the room, no mini-bar, no bathrobes. Weak signal made it difficult to use blackberry and cell phone. In room safe was placed so you had to sit sideways on the floor (after removing any hanging clothes and luggage) inside the closet to see the key panel. I've seen better security at 3-star hotels in Egypt. There were some guys dressed up as security guards standing around. Anyone can access any of the guest floors by elevator, no need to use a room key to access your floor. No Hilton Honors points if you book through any website other than Hilton.

Dissapointed

The room was nice but not as nice as I thought it should be for the money. They did not have free wifi internet service or free internet through a network cable. TVs and remotes are old and need work the remote didn't work either. A bit noisy at night. Nice good fresh food for breakfast. Not really set up for the business traveler. Beds were really soft.

Beautiful Hotel

Lovely, elegant place and very close to Millenium Park. Note that the room is not equipped with a coffee maker or fridge. The wait in line at the Starbucks downstairs was 20 minutes on a Saturday morning. Coffee should not be that time consuming. The pool is very small, and was heavily used and it cost $18 to use the workout machines each day. I found the mattress too soft, but the sheets were great.
