HIDDEN GEM ON WAIKIKI'S QUIET SIDE

From the street entrance all one sees are the flight of stairs to the lobby, a striped awning over the entry, lots of well shined brass and plants every where.Climb up the stairs and one is greeted by a quaint tropical hideaway.Lots of nice custom wood touches at the front desk and lobby and an extensive and unique collection of equestrian art decorating the lobby walls. The paniola(hawaiian cowboy) theme resonates throughout the hotel, with historical photos of hawaiian ranching and cowboy secenes lining the hallways to the rooms.Service is exceptional:Personal and friendly as befits a true"boutique hotel".Rooms are nicely decorated with very comfortable beds and lots of pillows,in room internet tv and refig and coffee maker. All that we needed. All is newly renovated and done well to boot.A classy property at half the price (or less) than the big chain hotels on the beach. And much is free as well:Morning paper, local calls, breakfast, in room internet.Nice not to be nickled and dimed for a change. An excellent choice for the discerning traveller looking for something more than the usual cookie cutter chain experience.

NO bang for your buck at the equus

The Bad 1). Poor continental breakfast starting at 7:30 while activites around the area have already started at 7 or before. 2). A/c maintenance requested was ignored 2 times until got firm with front desk 3). dicovered used tampon, completely clogged dirty air filter, moldy grout in shower 4). For $* more could have got 3 1/2 star hotel 2 blocks away at the Hilton Hawaiian Hotel 5). No off the street accessibility for unloading/loading luggage The Good 1). Found free parking just a block away every night 2). Very reasonable restaurants, stores 1 block away

Overall - great, especially value for money. Extra bonus -- fireworks over the ocean. Could be better -- the continental breakfast. But the coffee was good. Internet connectivity is great, but requires Ethernet cable. Suggestion for improvement: add wireless to room modem equipment. The room itself was excellent, even more to my personal tastes than typical high-dollar hotel rooms. Staff was excellent.

Another satisfied stay in an AQUA Hotel

I stayed at the AQUA Hotel at the International Mkt the weekend before and after a cruise last year and was pleased with the helpfulness of the service staff both times. This time I needed something close to the Hilton Hawaiian Village where my conference was being held. Once again, I was pleased with the helpfulness of the staff. If I needed directions to a beach, shopping, or bus hopping, they would guide me. The room was clean and the building well maintained. The continental breakfast was satisfactory- had great fresh coffee and fruit.

Basic, adequate hotel for the money

Upon check-in, I found half cups of coffee , a half-eaten can of Pringles, crumbs on the floor and trash on the tables. However, the beds were made so the previous occupants may have visited the room after it was made. My city view room looked at a building next door. During my 3 night stay, the room was made daily, although always around 4P. Plenty of clean towels and a new packet of coffee were always left. Pool is very small Continental breakfast, which normally consisted of dinner rolls, bananas or canned fruit, and coffee was poor in comparison to other hotels. I usually went to McDonalds or Starbucks just down the block. One computer is located near the lobby at .15/minute. No free wi-fi exists, as advertised, although you can borrow their one modem, if available. If you need a basic room for a few days, Equus is OK but there are better places for a few dollars more.
