Excellent if you don't have noisy neighbors

The Affinia is comfortable and attractive, the staff lively and considerate. Aesthetics and amenities are very good. The downside? Poor sound insulation in the corridor walls -- one hears every voice and footstep out in the corridor. Three doors down from us, in a room across the hall, a group of women partied all weekend. Their laughter and screeches poured out and echoed down the corridor all Friday night. Even with a towel over my head, I couldn't sleep. Next morning I told a woman at the front desk. She took it to heart and said if it happened again I should call down. Saturday night someone must have spoken to them because they came off the elevator quietly and didn't start partying again until morning.
Only one elevator worked to the upper floors, but staff stood by to entertain us while we waited.
Overall, I'd try the Affinia again. The location is excellent, the atmosphere friendly. The room offers everything essential; nothing excessive. And, in a nod to energy conservation, the lights are on dimmers.
Small, but nice

We found a good deal (about $*/night) for the double bed guest room, which I believe is their cheapest room. The two beds were nice and comfortable, but there was not much room, which wasn't a problem since we weren't there except to sleep. The service was wonderful - we were treated respectfully and the staff was quick to offer recommendations about where to eat and shop. The first night we were too tired to leave the room, and ordered room service from the in-house restaurant and were quite impressed - the prices for lunch and dinner were actually fairly reasonable. Breakfast (which we did not order) seemed overpriced. We used the valet service which was pricey but stress-free. Our room had a well stocked mini bar with snacks and a nice view of downtown. Gino's East next door was awesome. I was prepared after reading other reviews for the lack of bath tub - but after being in high heels nearly all day, I would have appreciated a place to soak my feet! There was also a cold draft from the window, but we were able to adjust the heat enough to make the room quite comfortable. We stayed during the week, so I didn't expect it to be very noisy, but we did hear a lot of garbage trucks and sirens. Nothing from within the hotel itself though. Overall, we were very pleased with the room, the service, and the location.

This was our first stay at the Affinia in Chicago. We were very pleased with the hotel employees, the room, the service, and the location. Oh, and the shower had great water pressure - a must! Our coffee maker in the room did not work and we called the desk and a replacement was brought up right away. The staff at the desk, the valet, and the doorman had great smiles and friendly faces and they were very helpful. The pillow selection is a fun amenity. Our daughter requested a pillow that she could plug her ipod into and listen to music as she slept. Cool! The rooftop bar has a fun view and the outdoor seating area would be great in warmer weather. Twice when we were at this bar though we were overcharged for our drinks. The drink prices in the register did not match the menu - watch out for that. The more senior bartender did apologize and changed the charges to reflect the menu prices.
Very Good Value

This has become my deafult hotel in Chicago. Very decent hotel that is walking distance to good restraunts and entertainment yet a short cab ride to the business district. Very good value for the business traveler.
Would never stay again.

We booked this hotel as a last minute vacation planned on doing a little shopping and nightlife downtown. We where woken up at 6:00 in the morning with our bathroom flooded, this water was brown and all the clothing and our belongings left in the bathroom were dirty and sopping wet. We where moved to another room, but it was smaller then the orginal room we had gotten and paid for. The next day the housekeeping service never even came to change our sheets, coffee or towels, which is just horrible service. The service along with the orginal room where perfect, but we do not plan on ever spending another weekend in that flooding hotel.
