Classic NY boutique hotel on upper east side

The Franklin was a nice little boutique hotel. The rooms are very well appointed, but are remarkably small - remarkably! I've stayed in NYC many times, and these are the smallest that I've encountered. The bed was wonderful and the room had a large flat panel TV - so it was well appointed.
There were many nice touches to the hotel - interested tile mosaics for the room numbers and the hall art. There was a lovely lounge - and nice breakfast room serving a classic European continental breakfast.
All in all, I really liked it. A groovy little boutique surprise on the upper east side.
Small but nice

This hotel has one thing going against it: it's small. Really small. I walked into the lobby and thought I was in the foyer. The elevator: small. The room: small. The bathroom: tiny. BUT: everything else is very nice, and the nice stuff makes up for it: Very polite service, very clean room, a nice flatscreen TV, comfortable bed, great pillows, free wireless Internet in the room, a very tasty Continental breakfast that reminded me of some of the great European boutique hotels I've frequented. And the location is very convenient: it's one block from the subway (#6 train on Park Ave and 86th St).

The first room they gave us which was called a Supreme was a shoebox. No room for even a suitcase. We had stayed here before but now to get a decent size room now is called a deluxe. Told us we shouldn't have gone through our travel agent. Ended up getting upgraded but felt that it was a real chore. Told us at first no rooms, then had 2 rooms. Not sure what that was about. The deluxe is a nice sized room, but other than breakfast no amenities. The breakfast (European style) was very, very nice. The staff that have been there a long time are excellent. The newcomers could use some training on customer relations. The hotel is quaint and very clean and nicely decorated. The linens are top notch. We like the location because it is close to family. Overall if you get a deluxe room and don't mind paying the extra it is nice hotel and you should enjoy your stay.

Our short stay at the Franklin was extremely positive. I have never stayed in a hotel with friendlier staff - they were outstanding. The continental breakfast was modest in scope, but excellent in quality. The complimentary wine and cheese from 5-7 was a nice touch. Location was great, too, convenient to subway and museums.
The room was quite small, but that was not a major issue for us. Could have used better lighting above the sink, is my only suggestion of significance.

We came here for 2 days of apartment hunting - and they provided everything we needed from free high-speed internet to a wonderful bed with plasma screen TV, to a computer in the lobby where we could print the contract, and take-out menus for in-room dining. All the while the decor was beautiful, the staff was so incredibly helpful, and we felt very safe. The breakfast was included, which featured French style cheese, bread, and proscutto with cereal, coffee, and juice. Wish we could have stayed longer!!
