Clean room and friendly service

We stayed at the Hotel Kabuki for 5 days, 4 nights in late October/early November 2008. Reservation said Kabuki King, but I think we were upgraded to a Deluxe View King Room (Rm 1201). The room was clean, comfortable, and dwarfed by the king bed. Bathroom was scrupulously clean, if awkward: The toilet and shower each had their own rooms (closet, really, for the toilet), and the sink was in the room proper, in line of sight from the bed. This means 1)all 3 light fixtures were tied to a single switch, so midnight bathroom trips disturbed other occupants; 2)the shower is really a Japanese soaking tub -- there's no curtain, so showering leaves the floor wet and slippery; and 3)no shower curtain+clear glass door+mirrors around sink leaves nothing to the imagination. Since I was with my SO, this wasn't a problem, but it's something to keep in mind. We also had a small balcony with a lovely view of the hills beyond Post St.
Service was friendly, helpful, and quick -- we waited behind maybe one person to check in and out, and the night before we left the concierge even printed our boarding passes.
The hotel is in a quiet neighborhood amidst a strip of Japanese shops, groceries and restaurants; eat at Honu's Hawaiian (great lumpia and beer!) but avoid New Minny's (fluorescent runny eggs) in the plaza across the street. There's a bus stop behind the hotel where you can hop a 10- or 15-minute ride to downtown. I found it just close enough to be convenient and far enough to get a good night's sleep.
Overall, a great place to lay your head after a day of touring, accommodations and service well worth the (on line website flight+hotel) price.

What a pleasant surprise. We were upgraded and given a lovely Japanese suite with Shoji screens that opened out to a spacious sitting room facing a serene garden. The bathroom was equaly spacious with a large walkin shower and a Japanese soaking tub. The other room our family members stayed in was a regular sized Western type that was very comfortable but was next to room a filled with loud boisterous guests that partied late into the night. After conplaining to the front desk, they were moved to a suite at 2 AM. Our overall experience was very positive. The restaurant staff were extremely accomodating to our little grandchildren at breakfast.
This was our first time to visit Japantown where the hotel is located and what a great location it is -quiet nieghborhood away from the hustle and bustle of the usual tourist areas and walking distance to the lovely shops and cafes in Pacific Heeights( Fillmore St up to Union St) Another plus was the abundance of Japanese restaurants just outside of the hotel-it was sushi heaven.

We stayed at the Kabuki Hotel to experience Japan Town. We had so much fun staying here. The rooms are newly rennovated, nice size, clean with comfortable beds. The rooms are designed like a Japanese hotel room. The area around the hotel at night was very quite. Also, there are a lot of great restaurants near by. We went to Bushi Tei, which is right in front of the Kabuki Hotel, and we highly reccomend it.
The hotel is close to everything, Fisherman's Wharf is about 5-10 minutes away. This is a fun and different hotel then the normal San Francisco hotel. I will be back soon!

Went to SF with my girlfriend for valentines and our anniversary. found this hotel here on travelocity and got it for a good price. When we arrived at the hotel we were immediately greeted with smiles and hellos. staff was very kind and very personable and courteous. Our room was roomy. With a good view of the Japan center. Which by the way was the closest thing to Japan without having to leave the counrty. Every night my girlfriend and I had a different place to eat dinner as there were dozens of places to chose from. Not all sushi or raw fish, there were some teppan places. but you can't be there and not eat sushi as the sushi there is really fresh and delicious. the hotel is connected to a small mall where you can find eateries. I recommend the "Belly Good Crepe" place. It's what it claims to be. "Belly Good!" You may also find small gift shops for that last minute souvenier shopping you haven't done. The only "con" about the hotel's location, isn't even a con, is that it's located opposite the direction of where you want to be in SF (ie Union square, Fisherman's Wharf). But being in SF you want to make getting around the city part of your trip. We both loved taking the public transportation there. The MUNI and the classic trolly cars. It made our trip more fun and interesting. Do as the locals do. You could even walk and enjoy the sights. Try and blend in. You'll find that it'll be quite an experience. I recommend this hotel highly for those who want to be a local "San Franciscan" for a weekend.
