Even though the hotel is less than 10 years old, they have just completely renovated the building from top to bottom. The staff was especially friendly, the complimentary breakfast was of good quality and variety. This was my second stay at this hotel and plan on returning onmy next trip to Halifax

The Cambridge IS Halifax! What a great place to spend a week in the Maritimes! From the rooms to the food.. from the location to the incredible staff. This is what a vacation in Nova Scotia is all about. The rates are very reasonable but its the great staff that make you feel like part of that incredible province!

Good Deal

The service was better than most higher-priced hotels that I have stayed in. Rooms were large and very clean. Great location. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Cambridge Suites Hotel

The Cambridge Suites, on the corner of Brunswick and Sackville Streets, sits in the shadow of the citadel, and many of its rooms offer views over the rooftops of Halifax to the harbour. Although we have stayed at many of Halifax’s hotels over the years, the Cambridge Suites is often our hotel of choice. To cut to the chase, you can see the different room configurations, rates, and a slide show at the Cambridge site, suites.

On this trip, traveling with our daughter, we chose the one-bedroom suite. It features a bedroom with a king-sized and very comfortable bed, a small but full bath, and a kitchenette with microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and bar-fridge, and selection of dishes and utensils. The living area has a couch/bed, a comfortable chair, and a table with two chairs, one of which is an office-type swivel chair. There is a second work area as well with Internet access. The living room and bedroom share the television, and there is a slider between them, so real privacy is somewhat limited, but it was sufficient. The studios offer the bed and the couch, but with no privacy, so they’re suitable for a couple of people or people traveling with a child.

The hotel’s amenities include two levels of a parking garage, and on the sixth floor, there is a reasonably well-equipped exercise room with a hot tub and sauna. Off the exercise room is a large outdoor patio with great views over Halifax. On Wednesdays, guests are invited to a manager’s party in that area, with snacks and cocktails. There is also a modern restaurant/lounge, Dofsky’s, just off the lobby. In the morning, there is a complementary breakfast offered in the restaurant offering fruit, cereals, muffins, croissants, bagels, and toast. In other words, the hotel has everything the business or leisure traveler needs, including bell service, a grocery shopping service, and an excellent and helpful staff.

What else is there? Location! It is close to everything. It is an easy walk down the hill to the harbour and the historic properties, and the citadel is just up the street. Halifax’s main thoroughfare, Barrington Street, is just 3 blocks down, and there are quite a number of good pubs, wine bars, and restaurants close by, including Maxwell’s Plum, The Keg, The Shoe Shoppe, Opa!, Ryan Duffy’s, Il Mercato, and Seven. There is also a surfeit of pizza at "pizza corner" just 1 block from the hotel, and Halifax’s main shopping area, Spring Garden Road, is 3 minutes on foot. If you’re looking for a hotel in the center, the Cambridge Suites is a good choice.

Cambridge Suites

We had 2 identical suites, each overlooking Halifax Harbour. The best room layout I've ever seen. On the upper level in each suite was the bathroom, kitchette and the bedroom. On the lower lever (3 steps down) was a sitting room. Sliding panels could be adjusted in the bedroom so that you could see the wonderful view from the very large windows in the sitting room. Several large closets, plenty of drawers and shelves. The usual bath arrangement with 2 hair dryers. Buffet breakfast was included. Parking was extra and difficult for our giant-sized American SUV. The hotel is across the street from the Cididel, the most prominent landmark in Halifax. It is extremely well located for all downtown Halifax activities and is a 5 minute walk from the famous Spring Garden Road shopping (and eating) district. This hotel accepted my Discover card (rare in Nova Scotia). Pet peeve--indoor parking expensive and not friendly to our large American SUV. Click here for Cambridge Suites.
