Good service but too old

People are friendly and they have good service. However, the hotel is too old. The A/C was cool for only 30 mins. Neither the vending machine on my floor nor the one in the lobby was working. Travel website gave it a 3 stars. I think it is only 2.5 stars.
Enjoyable Stay

Our stay at the Eastland Hotel was very enjoyable. The front desk service was wonderful and the valet parking service was excellent. The room we stayed in was huge and had a wonderful view. The rooftop lounge had excellent ambiance and the staff was very friendly. The downside to our stay was that the rooms were drafty and we had to keep the heat cranked up to about 80 degrees to make the room feel about 70 degrees. Also, getting to our room, which was on the first floor, should have been a breeze to get to. We felt like we were in a maze inside the hotel. Once we got used to the hotel, it didn't seem as bad.
Other than that, the room was very clean and the hotel was beautiful. I would definitely stay at the Eastland again.

Very nice hotel. Courteous staff. They gave us an upgrade for free and it was a nice room with a king bed. Rooftop lounge gave a great view of Portland.
Older, Clean, Good Location

This hotel was an older hotel, but clean and within a 10-minute walking distance to the main part of downtown. However, the downside was that upon check in, we were told to park in the parking garage connected by the breezeway to the hotel and upon check-out our ticket would be validated. What they didn't tell us was that it was only validated for a discount. We still ended up paying $11 to park overnight. It would have been better had they said this upfront. All in all, it was still a good stay.
Never again!

Right from the get-go it was bad. The front desk staff was not friendly. They were short staffed and unwelcoming. The hotel is old, which we thought would mean "charming" but not the case - it was old and run down. The hall ways are narrow, low ceilings, pipes exposed in areas, and dark. The room we had was facing the busy road so it was noisy and the windows didn't seal. To top it off the bathroom above us started leaking into our bathroom in the middle night making a large mess and more noise. When we called the front the desk they sent someone up to "look" at it but didn't offer any solutions to fix the problem or compensate us for the inconvenience. Besides those issues, the carpets were dirty and we found long black hairs on the vanity and in the shower - it was if our room had never been cleaned. I will NEVER stay there again nor would I recommend it to anyone. Oh, and there is no onsite parking so you have to use a neighboring parking garage that is seedy at best.
