Checked in after abandoning a competitor, and found this facility under renovation. Despite the on-going construction, everything went very smoothly. Someone needs to hire away the front manager and promote him to at least VP- Customer Relations at twice whatever he's making. Helpful and attentive, very professional attitude with a sense of humor under pressure, he gets it done, even to having pre-printed directions to the Base and local attractions. Requested a 'roll-away', which was needed for my son who got an unexpected overnight pass from FT. Jackson, and it was delivered to our room made up with extra pillows in 5 minutes. The renovation looks to be upscale and comfortable, and hopefully they will enlarge the breakfast room. The signage needs help, as it is sandwiched between larger ones and it is too easy to miss and pass by. Very good overall.
Stay somewhere else!!!!

We were running late, and called to verify the rooms would be held. When we arrived, they had our paperwork ready and waiting. However, one of the cards did not work on the door for the room. When we got in the room, the window was open. But this did not help the smoke smell in the room. There were holes and cigerette burns in the carpet, and holes in the blankets on all the beds. There was mold on the shower curtain. The shower head was broken. A train rolled by early in the morning. One of our rooms was near the elevator, and could hear every sound from that in the room all night long. The other room must have been near the laundry room, we heard the dryer in our room. We were too afraid to try the breakfast. There are plenty of hotels near this one. No reason to stay here. We will never stay at a La Quinta again.

The only thing going for this hotel is that it is pet friendly. That having been said, my room was a dump. It was a smoking room, as I am a smoker, and the carpet, furniture, etc., was littered with cigarette burns. The carpet was stained with what was obviously pet stains. You had to jiggle the tub water spigot to get the water to turn on, the selections on the TV were terrible, unless you love at least 4 ESPN channels. I don't know if they were redoing the room next to me, but I was awoken at 6:00 by lots of banging and noise two of the days I was there. The staff was very friendly, that was the best thing about it. Location wise, it was near where I needed to be. My parents live in Columbia and wanted me to bring my Shih Tzu Sammy with me to celebrate the New Year. Something in the room even made him sick to his tummy! Oh and I did clean up his mess, something that obviously was not done by previous tenants or the hotel. Never again.
Awesome Under Pressure

The hosts at the front desk were awesome here! When I stayed, Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hanna was bearing down, people were canceling reservations right and left...and everyone I came in contact with at the front desk was cool, calm, friendly, and extremely helpful. I was there to attend my son's Army basic training graduation. I was provided with printed directions to Fort Jackson, as well as clear verbal directions and advice as to when to arrive to beat the rush. I was extremely grateful!! Free breakfast was very tasty - I enjoyed biscuits and sausage gravy. The only negative was that my reservation was for a king size bed, no-smoking room. I got 2 queen size beds (not a problem) in a smoking room ( a bit of a problem since I am allergic to smoke!) However, a forgivable mistake considering the weather situation.
