Marriott Marquis Times Square

  • February 27, 2007

Who honeymoons in the busiest, noisiest part of NYC? People who aren’t paying for the honeymoon. My husband and I were fortunate to have most of our trip planning and costs gifted to us, so we didn’t exactly have a choice in where to honeymoon. NYC was not on my list of honeymoon destinations, but I was impressed by the convenience and luxury offered by the Marriott Marquis.

To say that this hotel is convenient to Times Square is an understatement. The property seems to spill out onto the square; switching gears from relaxing in the hotel to venturing into the city is effortless. The hotel is so large that when we needed a break from the overwhelming city, we simply walked inside the lobby and felt calmer. It was even quieter on our high floor.

I usually choose smaller, more homey vacation accommodations, and the Marriott Marquis’ opulence did offend my senses a bit. But my husband and I had no time to plan for our honeymoon, so staying smack in Times Square was a great starting point for our three-day honeymoon. The hotel was clean and bright, and I felt safe there. Our room was small, but the bed was very cozy (I usually hate hotel beds). If I had the chance to stay there again, I likely would just for the convenience. Staying at the Marriott Marquis was an unforgettable experience.

Great hotel in Times Square. Broadway theater actually in the hotel. Very large, and easy to get lost in, though. Location can't be beat though.

Marriott Marquis

The Marriott Marquis is a beautiful hotel located in the heart of Times Square. We arrived on June 27, 2006 for a girl's weekend and had received a great rate of $239 per night on the Marriott website. This was a prepaid non-refundable rate. The room was large with two double beds and we had an exquisite view of Times Square (pictures attached). Check-in was quick and easy and the staff was friendly and accommodating. We arrived early and were able to check in right away.

There are two Starbucks located on the premises along with a fantastic hotel lounge located on the eighth floor. Great pineapple cosmos although a bit pricey! But hey, it's NYC and you can't beat the view of Times Square! There is also a rotating restaurant and bar on one of the higher level floors. The workout room is conveniently located on the 23rd floor surrounded by the glass elevators and a splendid city view but, who had time to workout?

Several theaters are located virtually steps away from the hotel and Junior's Cheesecake is across the street. The room and the bathroom were nicely appointed and immaculate. The beds were extremely comfortable with down comforters and an abundance of pillows which made for a great night sleep after hours of walking.

We splurged one morning and had breakfast at the buffet located on the eighth floor. The food was well worth the expense. We enjoyed this hotel so immensely that we are spoiled and only want to stay here. However, the cost is not always affordable.

The only complaint we had was the elevators, which were very slow. Although there are several banks of elevators, at times the wait was 5 minutes or more. Highly recommended!

It's a Marriott, sure, but it's also in the heart of Times Square. Your view can be anything from the ticker to a billboard, and if you are on a lower floor, you'll hear the cabs racing and honking at each other. But when you are in NYC, do you really do more in a hotel room than just park your stuff?

The rooms are typical hotel rooms - nothing to write home about. All Marriott’s are the same. But as I said, for the price (which is decently considering the location), you have access to the heart of the city.

The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, which is good for tourists who might be nervous stepping out into Times Square, which even at night is lit up and packed with people.
