Comfort Inn West

This hotel is conveniently located just off I-40, practically in downtown Asheville, and right next door to gas stations and restaurants.

The hotel has all the basic amenities from this type of hotel: free "continental" breakfast, cable TV, wireless Internet, smoking or non-smoking rooms, free parking, complementary toiletries, etc. The rooms are in great condition and the building looks brand new. There were complimentary guidebooks in the lobby and rooms to provide information about the area. Large closet space, bathroom and mirrors as well as a good sound proofing were plusses.

At first, I really thought that the hotel was perfect for our price range, although a few things made me change my initial review.

1) Though relatively large (three floors) the hotel on had one entrance and one parking lot. Anytime you entered or left you had to go through the main lobby. This is not my experience with other hotels of this type.
2) The internet was *very* slow for high-speed.
3) On a Saturday morning breakfast had already been taken up by 9:45 am. In my opinion breakfast should be available until checkout time: 11am (hey, McDonald's serves breakfast till 11am on weekends, why not the hotel?)
4) The view out our window was of a brick wall.

So, though conveniently located, the hotel lacked in some areas. Although if you're just looking for a nice clean place to sleep, this is a fine hotel.

NEEDS IMPROVEMENT

Front desk staff rarely there but often out front smoking; personal hygiene poor w/staff sporting wet hair, chipped nail polish, unkept and not professional looking. Continental breakfast removed 5-10 mins. prior to time limit. We had to extend our stay by 2 nights and the Friday night rate almost doubled over weekday rate, but staff didn't alert us to that when we requested the extension, so we were shocked when we checked out. Hotel is in a bad location and hard to find.

Lovely hotel, but not close and convenient to the Asheville area, particularly as there was construction on I 40.
