We had a "suite," which was really just a slightly oversized regular room with a couch, but it was comfortable and in nice condition. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. My kids loved the pool and jacuzzi. The hot breakfast was great--bacon, sausage, omelets, plus the regular bagels, fruit, cereal, etc. The location is great for a quick and direct route to Padre and Mustang Island. The desk personnel were most courteous and the lobby was already festively decorated for the holiday season. En route to our room, we met 2 maintenance staff, who engaged in conversation and offered any assistance we needed during our stay. Our room was very clean, nicely appointed and well maintained. I especially liked having the microwave so I could have hot tea (which I brought with me) as I liked and the refreigerator too for keeping my husband's diabetic medications cool. However, the room could at least have had some paper plates or cups, the shower was not clean, there was a funny smell throughout the whole place, signs in the room stated a social hour between 7 - 9 and when we went down at 8 :15, we were told quite rudely that it was over at 8. It's great for the price, EXPECIALLY if you are traveling with kids.
