Lovely historical hotel

  • January 5, 2007

We had a lovely 3 night stay at The Drake over New Years. There were a few disappointments though. We booked in October and called the hotel for New Year's Eve info which they had none at the time. When we called back in December, the party was sold out and we could not even eat at the main hotel restaurant. Housekeeping left something undone each night. But the room was spacious and nicely appointed and the hotel is beautiful with a great location convenient to shopping and restaurants. Don't miss the Coq d'Or for martinis and the hamburger!

rooms were very disappointing

The common areas are beautiful, but the rooms need a lot of updating. The bathroom ceiling was peeling, and the counterspace is very small. The woodwork is chipped and the room felt dark and shabby. Also it was roasting hot all night and the window wouldn't open. Not worth the money.

Not perfect for executive suite

  • September 9, 2006
  • Rated 4 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
I paid for an executive suite for one night on a trip that I was limited on time with. First thing is I booked a lakeview and got a city view, city room was nice with two bathrooms and sofa, lakeview (that I had to pay $10 more to get) was tiny. Both rooms needed minor maintaince and the carpet in the lakeview needed to be cleaned. Not worth the money for the nicer room.

We normally stay in the fitzpatrick which is now the Afiania which is really nice but the drake is outstanding when you walk into the lobby you feel like a king or queen we stayed in a king family suite which was very, very large with a king bed two murphy beds a sitting area, a view of the lake and much more. And the location is another one of its best amenities. I give this hotel 5 stars!!!

Wonderfully romantic and cozy hotel located in the heart of Downtown Chicago close to amazing restaurants and fun bars, museums, the river and the best shopping ever! The staff here is beyond excellent taking care of their guests every need. The concierge, front desk, and housekeeping services will certainly take care of your every need. The elegant restaurants and lounges in this hotel are superb giving you the best service ever. Though the hotel is older, it supersedes its competition by taking care of guests at every opportunity. It is clean and gorgeous inside and quite the hot spot for weddings too!
