A Great Little Hotel in Philly

The Penns View is a wonderful little hotel in the Old Town section of Philadelphia. Very easy walk to the Independence venues, and close to many good places to eat. The staff was friendly, the room was spacious and comfortable and maid service very good. And the breakfast that came with the room was more than adequate. All in all, a very good lodging experience in Philly. The only complaint was the cost of parking ($21/day), but it was next door to the hotel and had in & out service, so I guess for a large city this in not a bad deal.

Nice.....but.....

We stayed here two nights, and the rate was over $* + $20/day to park. It was clean, well appointed and very service-oriented. We left the room in the morning at about 9 am, and hung the "service please" tag on the door. At 4:30 we returned to have cocktails in the room before dinner. The room had not been cleaned, and we called the front desk. We were told there was a staff shortage, but they would get to us. At 5:50 pm we were visited by housekeeping and given clean towels. At that point, we didn't want to leave the room and sit in the lobby for the next 30 minutes while they cleaned. So we paid for a nice hotel, but didn't get the housekeeping level that even a Super 8 would provide. And at checkout, I was never asked how our stay was; just my form of payment.

We'll stay again!

A wonderful boutique hotel. The included breakfast was better than expected and served in a very charming dining room - not a hotel lobby. Our room had a river view; we were concerned because we were next to the elevator AND the highway, but noise was not a problem. The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and the decor a welcome change from typical corporate hotels. The staff was friendly and helpful. We really appreciated the refreshing mint iced tea in the lobby when we returned from sightseeing in the afternoon (this hotel has little thoughful touches like that). Valet parking was right next to the hotel, and we never had to wait for our car. You can't ask for a better location in Philly! We walked to all of the historic sites, and were in a district with lots of great restaurants, nightlife, cool boutiques and galleries and an excellent independent record store. We'll return every time we visit this town.

This is a nice place in the heart of Philly. It feels like a bed and breakfast. We got a nice room with a fireplace and huge jacuzzi tub and it was quite romantic. The restaurant is pretty good as well. The wine flights are nice and they have a very large selection of wines. The food was also quite good. There was some sort of construction or work going on that we could hear in our room in the evening but it wasn't too bad. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel and we would go back again.

what a fantastic place

we stayed in this hotel for a quickie getaway on our first anniversary. i couldn't have asked for more. the room was beautiful & spacious with a great view and a jacuzzi tub that easily fit 2. the desk clerk was friendly and when i called to ask about an early check-in the woman i spoke with was warm & accomidating. the room was impeccably clean & well stocked with towels, bathrobes, soaps and the like. the property is in a great neighborhood and although it's very close to lots of bars & restaurants, it's just far enough away to not be bothered by party people on the weekends. the complimentary breakfast was sufficient. one thing i noticed was that it is kind of easy to hear the neighbors above and alongside, so if you are a light sleeper or like to sleep late that might be kind of irritating. overall i would have to say this place is near perfect. we travel frequently & stay in hotels often, so i was quite pleased to find such a place practically in our backyard. if you are visiting from out of town i would reccomend this over many of the chain hotels that charge the same if not more money for less character & convenience.
