Great Hotel

  • August 23, 2007

We stayed at the Comfort Inn in Portsmouth for a 4 day weekend vacation that we planned at the last minute. The front desk was friendly and very helpful on check-in, check-out and whenever needed. They gave us great directions and recommendations for activities, restaurants and parking in the downtown area. Although the hotel is outside of the downtown area, it was only minutes to drive there and it was a very direct route. The room was very clean and neat. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was very roomy. The room even had a small refrigerator and microwave, as well as an iron, ironing board and blow dryer. We were very happy with our stay and would stay there again.

Comfort Inn - Portsmouth

Comfort Inn - Portsmouth

We stopped at the Comfort Inn in Porstmouth as our last chance for do-it-yourself waffles of our vacation. We looked it up in our handy Choice Hotels book and discovered it was on our way, on the outside of Portsmouth and it had a pool. There were lots of road signs pointing the way, which we always find quite helpful.

We were told the price was going to be $139 per night, but Mom said that "Gee, that's a lot more than any of the other Comfort Inn's we've stayed at the last few days". That convinced them to give us the 'frequent traveller rate' of $119 instead. They explained the price difference by saying they were close to the ocean (which did not mean that we were even within view of the shore - in fact we were still 10 miles from the beach).

The swimming pool was long and narrow, about 2 lanes. It was in the basement of the hotel, so it was nice and warm. There was also a hot tub. This was one of the few Comfort Inns that had showers near the pool. There is also an exercise room in a separate room near the pool.

The room was standard, 2 double beds. The free wireless Internet worked fine. They had on demand video games, but we didn't try that. There was also a fridge and microwave along with the coffee machine. This was about the only stop we didn't make good use of that feature.

Breakfast was in a room just off the lobby. There were several tables and chairs and a high chair for the baby. There was also a dining room open across the hall which meant there was lots of seating. Lots of people seemed to be there for a conference, and they found it useful to take their breakfasts to the dining room area.

Breakfast included yogurt, fruit salad, and the standard coffee, tea, milk, juice, cereals, and of course our make-your-own waffles that we've come to love.

For comparison with other Comfort Inns:
Sign on the microwave: no sign
In-Room Extras: on demand video games, fridge, and microwave.
High-Speed Internet: wireless seemed to work
Swimming pool: Inside in the basement
High chairs at breakfast: 1
Cost of room: $119

Close to Water Country

Rooms were comfortable, breakfast bar was great, it was quite easy to get to Water Country--only one mile, pool was relaxing. Only problem is that the staff could have responded better to the problem I addressed regarding slow internet connection. Other than that, it was a great stay.
