This hotel was so gorgeous. Red carpet lead you up the steps to the massive glass doors and smartly dressed doormen greet you and open the door. On entering I felt a cool air which was a nice contrast to the humidity outside. The grand reception, made of marble and brass, I felt like I could never have afforded such a luxurious hotel to stay in! The staff were professional and dressed in beautiful silks, with flowers in their hair. They would bow with their hands together when we passed. This was something I didn't expect- but obviously it's a part of their culture I'm glad to see, that hasn't died out.
A bellboy took our cases and we checked in then took the carpeted elevator up to our floor.
Our cases had arrived in our room and the first thing I did was rush to the window to take a look at the panoramic view of the city below. I couldn't see the cars below, that's how high up we were! I can't begin to tell you how magnificent this view was! Surrounded by skyscrapers, but not too close that we were looking into someone else's hotel room! In the day it was colourful and awesome, at night it was like looking at a stary sky with all the rooms lit up for miles around.
Each day we would come back to find an arrangement on our beds like a swan or fan or flower shape made with our clean towels or nightshirts, and next to this display would be a chocolate and flower. We'd even find rose petals sprinkled in the toilet!
I booked the hotel before we flew and was worried that I'd done the wrong thing, because the exchange rate was good between the British pound and Thai baht. I checked the hotel's rack rate on arrival and was relieved to see it was more expensive to book it there as It was aimed towards rich business persons. At the Thai islands, however, the rates at the hotels are very reasonable so booking on arrival isn't bad at all on the wallet- the popular resorts can get full in peak season though (Nov-April).
The Landmark Hotel has a treatment room and a rooftop swimming pool with sunloungers. It's a nice feeling going for a swim on the top of a building in the middle of a city! Some nights you can pay to eat up there but we found the hotel quite pricey for drinks and meals, so we ate out. Below the hotel is a shopping mall with a few shops but nothing too amazing. For a few crafts, there are some stalls in the street if you come out of the hotel and go right.
