Not bad but could have been better

Nice hotel but it is far away by foot from Gaslamp District. The concierge staff was not very helpful and you hear the ships come in and out early in the morning blasting their horns. Rooms nice , comfy but unless being cloe to the airport is a prference, this hotel is not for you.

Nice View!

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were small but the view of the harbor made up for it. The best part for us was the convinent location, and of course the view o the bay from our room. If you like seafood I recommend Anthony's fish grotto directly across the street.

Good for sound sleepers

I'm not a picky person and can usually endure a few inconviences, but this hotel was too annoying not to write a review. Positives: 1. Free Wi-fi, even at the pool. 2. Location to local attractions. 3. Gift shop has light snacks. Negatives: 1. Train horns blowing long whistles until 2am. Woke us up every night. 2. Noisy city - sitting on the balcony was not relaxing. 3. Large gaps around sliding bathroom door offers no privacy. This is the external door to the rest of the room (and there is no fan to help.) 4. Closet is in the bathroom? Some coordination is required with multiple people in one room. 5. Parking lot charge of $$ a day. Really? Shouldn't that be included? 6. Even the drink machine on our floor was empty.

Nice but Expensive

Overall the hotel is nice and is in a good location. Expect to pay an extra fee to park your car in the hotel's parking lot. With no where else to park in the area your locked in to paying. You paid enough money to stay at the hotel it should include parking.

Many reasons to avoid this hotel at all costs

1. Rooms on the city side can be extremely noisy, with train horns blowing at 1AM. They *will* wake you up. The cruise ship horns on the bay side will do the same. 2. Room keys that need to be reprogrammed every single day - borders on absurd. 3. Painfully slow elevators, especially when you have to go back down to the lobby to get your room key fixed every day. Glass elevator apparently has no functioning air conditioning and was easily over 100 degrees inside. 4. In-room entertainment doesn't work. Ordered a movie and it wouldn't show up on the screen until 14 minutes in. Rewound to the beginning, but the system stopped working altogether halfway through the movie. On-site engineering could not fix the problem. 5. Room service orders that don't ever show up. You fill out the card. They take the card. They never deliver your breakfast. 6. Very noisy room air conditioners. 7. Stains in carpet. I don't think this hotel is typical of or fairly represents the Holiday Inn brand, because I've been in some really nice ones. The staff was apologetic and offered free nights, but seemed uninterested in fixing any of the problems or getting to the bottom of why they weren't capable of successfully providing the most basic services.
