Cheap and Clean but Small

This is a 100-year old hotel which is cheap and clean. The room for me, my wife and our 9-year old son was small. I actually measured it at 12 by 15, including the bathroom and a closet. The bedroom had 2 large comfortable beds, a bureau with 3 drawers, one chair, a TV and a phone. There was no alarm clock. Heat was by steam radiator. Air conditioning was by 2 window units. The windows looked out onto an interior court. The main advantage of this place is its location which is a half block from 7th Avenue and Broadway which is the heart of the theater district. Times Square is 1 1/2 blocks away. Although the hotel has no restaurant, there are 5 restaurants within a half block of the hotel. The entrance and hallways are painted in dark colors but our room was painted white with no pictures on the wall. The front desk staffers were young but helpful and knowledgeable about the area. When we needed a battery for the carbon monoxide sensor and help with the TV, a technician came within 5 minutes. I noticed that many of the other guests were either young or foreigners. Although I and my son like the place, my wife did not.

The hotel has no amenities, the customer service is horrible, and I would advise you to bring your own sheet set and pillow cover ;) However...the location is AWESOME! I was stuck...my friend booked our trip for us.

Small; but clean

This hotel was very clean and the custodial staff courteous. Front desk staff needs more training in customer service. The first room wee were given was too small for 2 people and the bathtub drained onto the floor beside the commode. Some rooms share bathrooms. Preview rooms first before officially accepting. The location is great; general manger helpful when I finally saw him. To be fair they are remodeling; so these things should go away. p.s. no plug ins in bathroom so take an extension cord and power bar or two.

NY on a budget

Go with low expectations. If you expect a clean bed, a hot shower, and excellent proximity to subways and attractions, then this place will be fine. Our double twin room was about 10x11. Great for a place to sleep and spend most of your time elsewhere. The money you save can be used for attractions and gifts.
